HELIX

The Rainbow Bridge

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over... together.
Some people look at jerky and say, "Why?"  I look at jerky and say, "Mmm! Jerky!"

:)  Damn you Helix.  I read that at work.

"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

The vet just called- the radiologist interpreted Tonk's xrays- looks like she had tumor in her right lung and it was pushing on her heart.

:(

That's the second one we've lost to cancer.  WTF?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope the vet's exam gives you some closure.

We got insurance for our new dog and found out that cancer rates for older dogs is around 50%. There is nothing you could have done and, according to the insurance web site, it usually is one of the least suffering ways for them to go.

So sorry.  I lost my childhood dog to cancer about 5 years ago.  Shaggy was my first dog.  She used to get ribbons in her hair.

dazie

Yeah- it didn't seem like she was in pain, just uncomfortable.  And it was quick, so that's a blessing.

So sorry dazie.  If I lost Midnight and had to walk into a empty house every night I don't know what I'd do.  Love the others a little more.  I'm watching her flap on the floor right now.  She's crazy just like me.  I will so miss her smile one day.  Now she just ran into the glass door.  My dog or what?

On any other Saturday, I'd have been awakened by an 85lb black puffball trying to insinuate her way between me and Ursus, or, if he wasn't in the bed, said puffball would have done her best to take up 90% of the bed all by herself.

It didn't happen today, and it sucked.

It's hard, it sucks and it's sad.  So sorry, Dazie.

DownSouth

God bless you Dazie.  I'm sure Midnight is on one of the beds or couches.....just went and looked.  She's on the new down comforter on my bed and her head is on my pillows.

:)  This makes me laugh- since last Monday morning, we've been offered three dogs.  We're seriously considering the third offere- a 4 month old blue heeler pup.  I haven't seen her, but from her description she'll look something like this:

She's in a home right now with small (under age 5) children and is doing her job, trying to herd them.  Well- with a heeler, that consists of shoving and nipping.  I figure we've had a heeler mix before, and hey- it'll be fun to watch her try to herd the moose.  :)

Nope.  She went to another house last night.

We went to the pound today, I could have brought every one of those dogs home.  *lol*  We didn't bring anyone home.

You know, maybe it's best you didn't get a new dog yet.  It's awfully soon.  Perhaps I'm just projecting or something, but it just wouldn't be the same to me.
11:42:24 [Gamplayerx] I keep getting knocked up.
11:42:28 [Gamplayerx] Er. OUT!

I know.  We've been going back and forth on this.  We haven't had one dog in such a long time that it's kind of nice (not that I wouldn't rather have Dakota alive mind you)  But China's never lived without another canine companion, and it's weirdly empty in the house.

That's the main reason we're looking, and the main reason we haven't brought anyone home yet.

I figure when the time is right, the right dog will show up.  It's happened 4 times so far.  :)

My family used to wait a while between dogs.  I think, though, that my folks have gotten to the point where they don't handle grieving as well as they used to.  Or they just don't want to linger on it anymore.  So the last time, when they had to put Spenser (RIP) down, my dad came home with a new dog in his hands from the local animal shelter.  I have to say, while it doesn't really relieve any of your grief, it sure pushes some of it to the side to have a rampaging puppy running amuck.

I don't know what I'll do when Dudley passes one day.  I will be an enormous wreck.

Jessie

My stepmom has been talking about having my cat put to sleep.  She's 22, maybe 23, and it will break my heart when she's gone.  I mean, she's been around for 3/4 of my life.

She doesn't seem to be in any pain, or she doesn't cry or whine or anything.  She's pretty blind and deaf and toothless and easily confused and walks crooked, though.

I'm not sure what the right thing to do with her is.  I wonder if she isn't in some sort of pain, but she doesn't seem to be.

She's definitely crazy though.  That can be witnessed when she decides she's just too sleepy to get out of the litter box.  Poor thing.

If she was my grandma, though, I wouldn't put her to sleep for any of those things, so I kind of think we should just let her live until she stops.
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

Gamplayerx

Yesterday, I watched Ping very carefully and deliberately kick a whole lot of litter out of the litter box onto the floor.  Then, she went over to the mess she had made and - I thought she was going to pee on the floor - lay down in the litter and rolled around and around.  Crazy insane cat.  Then she wanted to sit on Grumpus's lap.  I laughed and laughed.

Bittersweet- I love the fact that my dog's been gone since January and I just pulled one of her hairs out of a shirt fresh out of the dryer.  :)  How does that happen??  I've worn this shirt several times since January, and have washed it in between each time.
