I'm planning a salsa garden this year- here's what I have seeds for:

mexibell peppers (a cross between jalapenos and bells)
purple bell peppers
yellow bell peppers
several different varieties of heirloom tomato
tomatillo

Anything else you'd recommend?

OH- I suppose some cilantro would be good.  I'd say onion, but they're kind of a pain to grow, easier to buy.

i've never had very good luck with cilantro - it seems to go to seed almost immediately, especially once it gets hot, which always leads me to wonder how the hell they grow it in mexico and central america. i treat it like onions - easier to buy it.

any hotter peppers than the mexibells?

I was thinking maybe some jalapenos, but I'm not sure.  I'm going to the Farmer's Market this weekend- I'll see if anyone has seedlings.

ummm no.  Sorry.

Well, the salsa garden is well underway.  3 tomato plants (Cherokee purple and black something) are in, black zebra and beefsteak tomatoes are seedlings.  3 jalapeno plants and 3 mexibell pepper plants are in.  Tomatillos are (hopefully) seedling AS WE SPEAK.  (please send good thoughts their way- I never grew any from seed before)

reminds me, i saw some new chips at the gas station.   Habanero flavored doritoes.   very yummy.  a little kick but not alot.   better than the spicy ones. and the black pepper.

I'm very excited!  I just went and looked at my garden- the tomato plants already have flowers as do a few of the pepper plants!  AND the tomatillos are sprouting!

Granted- these aren't technically from the "salsa" part of the garden, but the tomato pics came out blurry.

1.  Clairmont zucchini
2.  Purple and sweet basil with rosemary

this is just your cover crop.   we KNOW what the REAL crop is.   why else were you singin "happy happy joy joy" when you got that plot of land?
