listening to the radio

Every time I have to listen to one of our radio clients while waiting for a traffic report, I remember how crappy mainstream radio is.  And that includes so-called "mainstream-breaker" stations like Dave, Jack, and all the "names" that mean "we play whatever we want, across all genres" but really mean "we take from the playlists of every station in the building, but our playlists are still planned out a week in advance, sometimes longer".

*sigh*

Even with the prevalence of personal audio devices and the relatively low cost of putting a CD player into a car and the even-lower cost of burning your own CDs, I firmly believe mainstream radio will never die.  It'll just get worse and worse.

What gets me is when they take a perfectly good song and put some lame ass drum track behind it and try to say it's the original.  I guess maybe it's cheaper to buy the drum track version?

our top 40 station turned to the jack format a couple months back.  i didn't know prince made that many songs.

There is nothing but 80s music in Roanoke, other than Country and Fundie crap.

We have a cool indepentant station here that plays new and good stuff all the time. The main DJ, "The Fish" is a pretty cool guy. If enough people call in and say they don't like a song he deletes it from the playlist.

We have a great independent station, too.  We also used to have WHFS - but they killed it for a caliente station.  Although it's sort of back on another station on the weekends, which is cool except that I very rarely listen to the radio on weekends.

i find it very unenjoyable to listen to the radio anymore.   might just be the stations here in iowa, but after a couple days of listening, its damned old. same stuff played over and over and over.   the shock jocks are really assholes, the personalities have none.  the music rotations seems to be the same thing every three or 4 days, and like tv, you get 4 minute of show 5 minutes of commercials.  etc...

They wonder why people pay for Sirius or XM radio.  if i could afford it, i would definately pay for non commercial radio.
