I bought the new CD by The Decemberists on a whim yesterday.  I'd been reading good reviews and had gone to cdnow.com to listen to snippets.  Decent, but not compelling enough to justify the raves the disc was receiving.  When I got to Best Buy to pick up some specific CDs, they didn't have them.  But I noticed they had the Decemberists disc.  So I grabbed it.

It's really, really good.  Really.  Those snippets didn't do it justice.  I am going to track down the rest of their stuff.  And I'll try and get some posted in the gmail dump.

I'm debating whether or not to download the Nick Hornby High Fidelity audio book. That has nothing to do with your post.
Underneath this flabby exterior is an enormous lack of character.

Actually, you were one of the first people I thought of when listening to this CD.  I think you might actually like it.

You confuse me.

Also, I think I can see all the way into your brain.

The very first day the dump opened, the first song I posted was the Mariners Songs.  That album is fan fucking tasting.  So are the rest of their albums.

Meaning the snippets on cdnow weren't all that compelling, but it turned out that they weren't indicative of the overall quality of the album.

That isn't my brain.

Usenet.  Picaresque got put up a little after new years eve.   It's a fucking time warp man.

I listened to the entire album again this morning as I was getting ready for work.  It has shot to the top of my favourites list and I can say assuredly I will be tracking down more of their stuff.

The Engine Driver just blows me away.

I've been trying to do more of the right thing with situations like this.  I don't mind sharing or getting a few songs, but when it comes to whole albums I am trying to actually purchase them.

They're coming back September 23rd, opening for Built to Spill.   ;D

I already have someone to go with.

You've got a DATE??!
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

Alas, no.  Just a coworker.  A male coworker.  Though his wife will probably come, so I guess a woman will be involved.

They're just unable to capture Bjork's overinflated sense of self importance!

Speaking of covers I spent the morning unsuccessfully trying to track down the cover of Christina Agulerra's "Beautiful" that Elvis Costello recorded for the show House.

Dry then Catch

What is a good Decemberists song to start out with?  I like Red Right Ankle, but I don't know what I should sample next
