As some of you know, we provide housing for two furry feline type things:  Ping and Pong.  Ping is about the softest, squeeziest, sweetest darn thing you could ever want to hug and squeeze and smoosh and snuggle.  She is not, however, -- how do I put this nicely? -- um, graceful.  We take quite sadistic joy in betting how long it will take for her to fall when she naps on the back of the sofa.  We giggle when she exuberantly chases a ball straight into the wall.  We delight in her sliding out of control across the wood floors. 

So, anyway. 

Saturday morning, our bags are packed, our gifts are wrapped, we're just about to leave for the weekend when Ping, our surefooted friend, chases a toy across the living room, slides over the stoop and plumments all akimbo down the stairs, ass over end, and crashes on the landing.  Hard.  Damn us, but we laughed.  Until she didn't get up.  And lay there and screamed. 

And my heart stopped.  I ran down and felt up the kitty and poked and prodded but couldn't find any obvious breaks.  Or anything that made her flinch.  We were literally on our way out the door.  Being a very bad person, I decided that she'd just gotten the wind knocked out of her and was fine, so we left. 

Longest 30 hours of my life.  Should I have taken her to the emergency vet?  What if she had internal bleeding?  Should I have put the key under the mat and called the cat sitter?  Should I have stayed home?

There's no real point in this story.  She's fine.  She's sitting on the back of my chair right now.  She's only fallen off twice.

That's kind of a funny story.  Scooter knocked a ladder over the other day when he was chasing his ball down the hallway.  I'd put it there to get up in the attic crawl space.  He was all asses and elbows trying to get away, but since the floor is wood he was running but not going anywhere.  I laughed at him.
