Orange Uniforms

Every NFL team has one uniform -- an alternate, if you will -- that they only use once a season.  For the Ravens, it's all-black.  For the Eagles, green shirts so dark they're almost black.

For the Miami Dolphins, it's orange shirts and white pants.

The Dolphins have never lost in the orange uniforms.  Last year, they beat the eventual superbowl champion Patriots.  The year before, they beat the Chargers (I believe).

They're not wearing the orange uniforms today.  Today, the Dolphins are wearing white, as they often do during daytime home games.  With a win today, the Dolphins will be tied with the Patriots for the #1 spot in the AFC East (and if the Bills win as well, it'll be a three-way tie).

I can only hope that the Dolphins are saving their orange uniforms for an even more-important game down the stretch.  We'll see.

Actually, it kind of does.  They make 55 or so orange jerseys, and then they sell them on NFLShop.com or wherever for $70 apiece.  In the long run, everyone makes money.

The first year they wore them was against the Washington Redskins and the second is like you mentioned, the Chargers.  The NFL currently prohibits teams from wearing their "alternate" colors more than once a season.  I have zero idea why.  The NFL catalogue only has the alternate jerseys for some teams and at differing times of the year.  It's another thing I don't get. 

If they were smarter, they'd have the alternate jerseys on display more in games and that would bolster interest.  Then if they had more printed and available to order, they could increase the overall sales a fair bit.
