WTF, exactly, is Google+?

Google's taking another shot at Facebook.  A lot of it looks the same, but the privacy controls seem a bit better.  It's easy to organize people into groups (circles) and choose who gets to see updates.

It's invite only, but there appears to be a way around that.

I've been playing with it -- I can't send invites out, though. It just says that invites will be enabled at some point for me.

I think that's what's going on for me too, now that I look at it.  I can add people to my "circles" but that doesn't mean they're invited.

Except there are no invites currently, and the ones people are getting are not working because they're getting filled too quickly.  I think I know a way around it, so if anyone is interested, let me know and I'll see if it still works.

I just spotted that invites were open again, at least temporarily.  If it doesn't work at first, keep trying every now and then.  They let a bunch in at a time, then shut it off for a little while.
