They're usually some sort of bittorent type file.  You need winrar or this: http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar38b2.exe.

Do they use .rar files for anything other than porn?  Seriously, that's all I ever see them attached to?  And if that's all they're used for, then I've just incriminated all three of us!!

i'd recommend this rather than winzip or winrar. it's actual free software, so you're not violating the license you agree to by using it more than X days, and all that.
