Jessie

Last night was Timothy's first basketball game of the season.  This year, he actually has a good coach, and had a lot of fun playing a game that never had more than a 4 point difference.

It was really entertaining, and when his teammate scored from the outside at the buzzer to take them into OT, we all jumped up and cheered.  They ended up winning it by 2.

This is going to be a fun season.
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

Dry then Catch

And how did the young Timothy fare?  What position does he play  Keep your eye on the chest not the ball when defending man to man.  Am I right e0?

He did fine, but didn't score any baskets.  They don't really play positions just yet.  This is more an instructional league.

Tell him that hard work and on-court hustle will carry him a long long way in sports.  I was never a great athlete but I made up for it with great heart and always made the squad that I went out for and got a lot of playing time.

So true.  I was a pretty good athlete, but not nearly the biggest.  I still got to start because I worked my ass off.

When I coached a few years back, I used to tell my kids that sort of thing too.  You wouldn't believe how much you can win, even with mediocre or sub-par athletes, if they'll just hustle.  I've won games and even championships against teams we had no business beating.  I was very fortunate I was able to instill in them a tough, gritty, work ethic.

Even though I have only a scant recollection of your appearance, your vocation as a teacher and personality as a teacher, you seem to me to be the consummate avatar of great Little League coaches.

Other than eating the huge fucking burger mentioned in a thread I just wrote, in college I had the honor of captaining like 6 intramural teams to victory.

My secret?  Choose a less competitive skill level league and fill it with RINGERS.   And be really nervous after and before every game

Anyway, Jessie team sports is great for a young man.  I really wished I had done more in my youth.  It really builds self-esteem and instills an esprit de corps not often found in strucutred environments in the future.

Jessie

I wish I'd done more as a kid, so I"m really trying to push him to do things, but only if he likes it.  He is really loving basketball this year.  Last year, it was a bit of a chore, because the coach was so bad.

Next year, I think he can try out for basketball with school.

Coaches can totally make or break the whole experience.  I had good coaches early in my playing time as a kid but when I got to HS, my football coach was a complete and total asshole and I last a touch over two weeks with him.

i sucked at baseball, basketball, and football. thank you very much.

Jessie

I see a lot of improvement in him at every game and practice.  He had a game Saturday, and I thought they were gonna get killed.  It was a terrible first half, with them down 9-0 at the half.  They came back though, and had it tied at 20, but the other team scored 2 at the buzzer.  The stress was too much for TImothy and he cried at the end, just from being so tense through the whole thing.
