Alice

I had to take Bruce to the vet again tonight.

I got home early, cuddled with him then played a video game while he was chewing on his new bone a coworker got for him.  Suddenly he was yelping and crying... the bone got stuck around his lower jaw.  It was a round bone with marrow in the middle that he had already eaten.  He must have slid it over his canine teeth which slope back a little & there was no way to get it off.  So I got him ready to go to the vet when he started screaming, I swear it was screaming.  He was so freaked out that this thing was stuck, he was trying to push it off his mouth with his paws.   He ripped 3 toenails completely off.

We're home now & he's drugged up and wants nothing to do with me, of course.  But please keep him and me in your thoughts and prayers, I'm about at my wits end.

HELIX

poor guy...hope he feels better soon.  i hate when our dog is sick and in pain.
Some people look at jerky and say, "Why?"  I look at jerky and say, "Mmm! Jerky!"

Jessie

Oh man, poor Bruce.  The two of you need a vacation.
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

Alice

Thanks for the well wishes.  I'm about ready to crash on the floor with him and sleep for the night.  He's doing okay, still groggy but okay.  And my mom was nice enough to come to the vets and take care of the bill - so I don't have to worry about that.  Thank god for the small things, right?

nishi

your mom is a great grandma to bruce, her granddog.

it is terrifying when they scream, i know. my heart started racing just when i read that.

bones can be hard on some dogs, in all sorts of ways, but especially after such gastro-excitement that bruce has had. some dogs do fine with them, but bruce may need to simplifiy his life a bit. nylabones. a muzzle while walking.  bruce is too curious for his own good. poor little boy.

willie sends more condolences.

<- this is a prankapple.

Add being curious into the fact that he's part Basset, which means that he'll be bull-headed, and he may definitely need some simplifications.  They're wonderful dogs, but when they get their mind on something, there's no stopping them.

I hope Bruce is feeling better!

I'm being completely serious and not trying to be funny at all, but I know of several dogs that take xanax for simiilar problems.  Perhaps you should consider it.

2nd.  I've also had to give dogs other anti-depressant/anti-anxiety drugs.
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

I've given dogs Benadryl.

I'm glad my dogs aren't depressed.  And I've given my dogs benadryl, too.  I had a dog with bad skin allergies and she took benadryl for them.

One of my parents dogs is on anxiety medicine.  I blame my stepmom.  I hope Bruce stays well.
