Best Picture and Director for Juno?!  Seriously?!  I swear, I do not understand why they feel it's necessary every year to nominate one lightweight release for prestige awards.  And this is coming from someone who really adored Juno.  That Best Director nom is just ludicrous.

Also, it turns out the Academy disqualified Johnny Greenwood's score for There Will Be Blood because they said too much of it wasn't composed originally for the film.

And hooray for Once getting a little love!  I hope that wins over that treacly Disney stuff.

I didn't see Juno yet, but I agree with your sentiment.  I think they throw one film in to say "See- we're not snobs- we chose a popular movie."
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

wow...that's a world of info that i never have time to watch or keep up with. someday i would love to attend the Sundance Film Fest, just to see something different.
haven't seen Sweeney Todd, but i really want to.

I think she's in the Judy Dench "8 minutes of screen time" award.

I am glad Borne got some technical nominations,  while not an acting tour-de-force, it was a kickass movie.

I've really enjoyed the whole Bourne series.  They've been very entertaining.

Alice

FYI - AMC is showing all 5 pictures nominated for Oscars on Feb. 23rd for $30 - which includes large popcorn and drink, and free refills.

Once may get stripped of it's best song nom.  I'll be pissed, as that is one of the only reasons I care this year.

I got that from Netflix, but had to send it back before I got to watch it because I cancelled my netflix to help afford my new car :-/
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

YAY!!! i would have disqualified it for other reasons, but i'll take "it wasn't composed for the movie". it certainly sounded like it belonged elsewhere.

I'm rather surprised there isn't a TF thread dedicated to snarking the Oscars.

Transformers just lost visual effects.

Bullsh*t.

Beefy

Javier was truly scary.  But I really wish I had seen Into the Wild.  And Michael Clayton.  I need to do that.

BigDun

Bad dreams, an Oscar salute. They should have done 5 minutes of montage.

Jessie

The art direction winner was too old for her dress.

Dreamgirls girl whose name I can't remember picked the wrong dress.  It was not flattering.

Anne Hathaway looked fantastic.  Her dress is fabulous.

Why the hell is Johnny Depp with who he is with instead of me?  I hate her.

That's my snark so far.

Hudson's dress showed off her curvy figure.  No complaints.

Anne Hathaway always looks good.

That's Depp's SO/mother of his children/whatever.

Beefy

I'm sitting here waiting for the performance of "Falling Slowly" and I'm hating the waiting.

I know who she is, but I still hate her.  He is fantastic.  I have loved him for nearly 20 years now.

Didn't see that one coming.  That said, I've had a copy of that movie for months simply because I read how astonishing a performance she gives in it.
