Otto is our neighbor's cat, he's an outdoor cat and doesn't get much care.  He comes into our house often, and we give him food and attention.

Well, as you can see by the pic- he's fucked right the heck up.  He's constantly getting in fights and stuff, and we clean him up, but I think this time he got hit by something.  I think what he's done is worry at that scrape on his leg until it bled again, as it wasn't that fresh looking yesterday.

So, I'm going to try and patch him up again, and hope for the best.  I don't think his person really gives a shit, and I can't afford to take him to the vet right now.  Any suggestions beyond peroxide, antibiotic ointment and the probably futile attempt at a bandage?

I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

Alice

Jesus.

Take him to a no-kill organization.  That's awful and his owners should get hit by a car.

dazie

He's such a sweetie about the whole thing too- I think though, that I'm going to need Ursus to hold him while I daub him up this time.

*sigh*

I think what happened was the neighbor's kids got the cat when one of them was living there.  Then they moved out and left the cat.  (there were two at one time, the other one split to another neighbor's houe)  I just don't think Tony wants the cat any more.

I would suggest cleaning the wounds, bandaging them, and then giving the poor thing 1/4 tablet of benydryll to let it sleep and not fuss at the bandages.

But I'm not a vet.

If you had a cat sized cone for his head it would be better than drugs. Other than that, I don't have any suggestions.

I daubed it with peroxide, and Ursus put about a tablespoon of antibiotic ointment on it.  I don't have benadryll.  Hrm.  Maybe a trip to Walgreens is in order.

I'm somewhat leery of dosing him though- almost killed my dog doing that one time.

Public service announcement- dogs don't react well to Claritin.

Well, he just tore out of here like nothing hurt, so I'm hoping he's going to be ok.

I'm also glad that if he ISN'T ok, he's at least not going to die on top of my fridge.

(That's where the catfood is)

Poor kitty.  :(

FYI, you can give cats baby benedryl - but you have to really watch the dosage.  Also, it's usually flavored something not particularly to cats' likings - like bubblegum.

dazie

Well crap.  Otto's much better, so much so that he snagged a baby bunny tonight.  We caught him with it when we got home.

Tim grabbed him, I grabbed the bunny.  Poor little thing had a bit of a scalping on his tuckus and a small puncture on his belly.

Out came the antibiotic ointment.

So now we have this tiny bunny.  What the hell do I do with it??  Is it keep-able?  Do I call the vet?  I don't think it's mother will want it, and it looks big enough to live on it's own.  Maybe.  Hell- I don't know.

The mother won't take it since you've disrupted his smell.  Either keep it or take it to a wildlife preserve.

Otto started the disrupting!  *lol*

Well, if it lives we'll see what we can do tomorrow.  Right now it's in a makeshift hutch of two small plastic baskets held together with twist ties.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply fault.  It's just that rabbits are very particular about smell.  :)

dazie

I know.  I just hope it lives.

One time, about 25 years ago, my brothers and I were playing in a field next to my grandpa's garage (he owned a shop, he was a mechanic).  Tom was running and we all heard a squeak.  He stepped on a baby bunny :(  That was a very scarring day.

Bunny murdering Tom.
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

You know you are old when you can think of something that happened a quarter of a century ago.

Is that a euphamism?
