So my dog has lung cancer

My dog has had a nagging cough for a couple of months now, and over the past week he's been eating less (and he's never had a problem eating before), he's woken up in the morning shaking, and today he was really lethargic. My dad took him to the emergency Vet, and the X-Rays they took show a tumor the size of an apple in his lungs. He's almost 11 years old, so surgery is too risky an option on him, so my family is going to try to make stuff as comfortable as possible for Yukon for his remaining time, and when his condition goes downhill to the point where he's not capable of being comfortable, we'll have him put to sleep. We do have an appointment with our regular Vet tomorrow, so we'll see what can be done, but it's still pretty rough.

I'll miss him a lot when he's gone.  :'(

I'm so sorry, honey.  It's so tough to lose our furry family.

Jessie

So sorry for you and your family.
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

Oh man.  I just went through that with my poop dog, and it sucked.  Fortunately for me, we didn't know what the deal was until after she was gone, and it was mercifully quick, but still...

My thoughts are with you.
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

Beefy

Best wishes.  I'm going to go hug Dudley.

VikingJuice

That's awfully sad.  I remember losing my dog when I was 15, it crushed me.  I haven't had a dog since.

Jessie

I tried to hug Butters, and she bit me.

It was better than earlier, when she decided I needed a bath, primarily of my face, neck and ear.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I'll let you know how his Vet appointment goes tomorrow.

I'm so sorry to hear that.  But so happy that he has an owner that cares enough to take him to the vet.  He knows he's loved. :)

Situation update: Yukon went to his regular Vet today, and had an ultrasound done, along with a biopsy. It's cancer, alright. However, it appears that it's localized there in his lungs. They've taken the sample off to the Veterinary hospital at the University about 40 miles from here, so we'll hear more back tomorrow regarding our possible options.

Gamplayerx

Best wishes to you and Yukon.

ReBurn

I hope they can do something for him. I know how hard it is. We may have to have our old dog put down tomorrow, so I feel for you.
11:42:24 [Gamplayerx] I keep getting knocked up.
11:42:28 [Gamplayerx] Er. OUT!

OBB

Well, at 5:45 today, we took Yukon into the Vet to be put down. He had gone steadily downhill over the past little while, to the point where he staggered to remain standing after going up a set of stairs. So my mother, father, and I took him to the Vet, where he was given a sedative to calm him down. They inserted the catheter, and all three of us were with him when they gave him the injection. He went really calmly, and I'm so glad. I hate like all Hell having to do stuff like this, but really, what else is there to do? Yukon died with dignity, and with the people he loved, and that's all I think he was asking for, and it's all I would ask for in the same circumstances. I'm going to miss him terribly.

:'(

Gamplayerx

I'm so sorry, honey.  I'm sure Yukon will leave a mighty hole in your heart.

BigDun

I'm sorry that you had to go through that, but am glad that your dog was surrounded by his family at the end.
16:26:25 [DownSouth] I'm in a monkey rutt

Infobahn

This has not been a good day.  My regrets OBB.

I've asked a wonderful friend of mine to keep DS in her thoughts.  She and I work together, and we both have facebook accounts.

Well, yesterday afternoon, I changed my facebook thing to say "Aileen is feeling sad for OBB" or something like that, because of the loss of his dog.

Cady emailed me in the middle of the night, scared to death that OBB was Jason, and that something bad had happened.

I explained that OBB was Bill and DownSouth was Jason, and OBB had just lost his dog, so I felt sad.

While she felt better that it wasn't Jason, she also feels bad for Bill, so she asked me to send her condolences to him as well.
