This movie was awesome. And I mean fucking awesome. I rarely see movies twice but I will be taking my little brothers to see it on Saturday.

Brett Ratner, the director, did an outstanding job. He made this movie for the fans. There were several scenes where the whole audience starting clapping. I won't spoil it for you, but there is an inside joke we had on Junto a while back that is included in the movie. Daniel and I nearly choked. This is by far the best of the X-Men movies. I highly recommend it.

Rut-roh.  I think I spoiler'd it in WileE's thread about the film.  If I did, sorry.

you cant really spoil a movie that has a great deal of CGI. they are " you have to see it to truely enjoy it"

read to me that storm created a thunderstorm and struck a backguy with a lightning bolt doesnt have the same effect of seeing it.

Just like the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  Great stories, but seeing it brought to *life* is completely different.

here is what I told Jared this morning...

Lucas made Star Wars in the 70's and it was geared for teenagers. Those teenagers loved it and became huge fans.

When Lucas made the pre-queals he made them for teenagers. The orignal fans had grown up and Lucas just left them out to dry. The hardcore fans (most of them (ok must of US)) were dissapointed.

X-Men 1 and 2 were good movies. They did a good job of appealing to fans and non-fans alike.
But X3 is for the fans. Sure the story is different from the comics and some of the characters are even different, but the whole movie had a feel of respect for both the comic and the fans. The "eastereggs" in the movie had a feeling of paying homage rather than a cheap trick.

yeah lucas screwed up bigtime.  he wrote the story for a 7 yr old, but gave the graphics to the 20 yr old hard core fans.

I got off work early so I went to the theater to catch the 2:10pm showing.  It was sold out, and the following show at 2:40pm was filling up fast.  I left.  Maybe if I had someone to talk to I'd fight that crowd.  Maybe.

School is out, and now other than those times I take the little bro to the movies first thing in the morning, my moviegoing at the theater is officially done for the summer.  Shame.

I've heard the COMPLETE opposite.  Ratner pulled the MASS amount he could from every goddamned big story line he could find and then mashed them up to be unrecognizable.  Calisto and the Morlocks, Dark Phoenix, and Joss Whedon's Cure ... To fit your analogy it's like having Han going to the Imperial Academy, winning the Falcon and swooping in to save the day at the Trench Run -WHILE- he's shooting Greedo( he shoots first this time too ).  It's not made for the fans, it's shotgun filming, one pellet -has- to hit so lets load the story up with so many "OH MANS!" that there's no actual story, just fucking moments.  That's the definition of BAD filmmaking.

Beefy

A 44.5 million dollar opening day puts that whole "last stand" thing into question.

It had some wonderful gee-whiz moments, and some really boneheaded ones as well.  Ratner simply doesn't have the skill of Bryan Singer as a visual storyteller, and thus many of the narrative and emotional beats in the film were either ill-timed or missed altogether.  It was big and loud and messy.  Still though, the real person to point at for blame is still Tom Rothman, not Ratner.  Ratner gets enough of it right to make you wonder what could have been if he had been given more time.

I enjoyed it overall.

I didn't expect this film to be like the comics, I just wanted it to be a logical extension of the first two films.  And if you view the first two as set-up and character development, then it's easier to take The Last Stand's problems in stride.

Things I Was Happy With:

- Phoenix (sooooo awesome)
- Storm (about frickin' time)
- Moira!
- Fastball Special
- Beast in fight scenes
- Iceman icing up (about frickin' time)
- Removing boring-ass Cyclops from the equation
- Wolverine's long walk towards Phoenix (right out of the comics)
- Phoenix (bears repeating, I thought they were going to fuck it up)

Things That Were Pointless or Bad:

- The Golden Gate Bridge thing was utterly pointless
- The fate of Magneto
- "I'm Juggernaut, bitch!"
- Angel was underused, a missed opportunity
- Some real howlers in the dialogue
- The afore mentioned timing issues were fairly constant

Schadenfreude:

5/6 of the audience left when the credits rolled and totally missed one of the most important scenes in the film, which popped up after the credits.

In fact, I have been quoting that line for two days now and it hasn't gotten old yet.

Off topic, but WileE had a great movie idea last night. Snakes in a bowling ally. w00t!

We didn't get the SoaP trailer.   :(

The new Supes trailer was awesome.  The Ghost Rider trailer looked even worse on screen (though little bro thought it looked "so cool").

Bishamonten

Should see it later tonight.  I'll come back with more discussion afterwards.

Alice

Does Halle Berry die?  Cuz if she does, I'll go see it.  Otherwise - no thank you.

WileE

No, she doesn't, but towards the end she is lookin' a bit haggard.  :)

I enjoyed the movie.  They used the "Serenity" effect with the death of Scott to say "well, see, we're serious" and then the death of Professor X to say "holy crap! you killed Professor X!".  I was totally surprised.

I think the only problem I had with the film was that they tried to cram too much into two hours.

I didn't stay for the final scene.  The last scene I saw was Magneto finding out that the cure wears off after time, as he still seems to have some of his power.  Could someone smalltext it for me?

We didn't get the SoaP trailer either.  We were a bit late, so I missed most of the Superman trailer also.  But My Super Ex-Girlfriend actually doesn't look half bad.

They go back to the room with Moira and the vegetable guy that Prof. X was referencing in class earlier in the film.  As Moira leans over the body (which is just off camera) to adjust something, you hear Prof. X say, "Hello, Moira", to which she responds "Charles?!"  Cut to black.
