hmmmm i wonder if a large amount of suppermarket housewives will become objectivists since their favorite tabloid do gooders are going to star in this

also is it going to be in 17 parts?

it is one of the longest novels ever written

and can brad pitt really deliver an 80 page monologue?

Alice

Why wouldn't they just do Anthem?  It's the same thing, but much smaller.

dazie

Ohhh god no.  Not Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.  I mean- they're good together and all but PLEASE NO.

:'(
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"

Alice

If you've read Atlas Shrugged, you've read Anthem.  Seriously.  They are the same book - but one is longer.

there are two posters on the wall of the school for tots
one says

"A is for A"

and the other

"Helping is futile"

i honestly don't think i ever had an actual human in my mind as John Galt....ts weird i usually really create images when i read and i think this was more of an idea of what man should be

dazie

I think you should get the "Who is John Galt" thong.

I love Jason, but I think the cats would read that book (or any book) before he would.

I have!  It's ok- Patricia Neal is in it, and she's not one of my faves.  Gary Cooper plays a good Roarke, but again- not one of my faves.  It's still a pretty powerful film though.

Yes, except that one is about the evils of totalitarian leadership and the other is about the evils of socialism and government subsidies to businesses.

Re-reading Atlas Shrugged, so I figured I'd revisit this thread and the potential horror that is the potential movie.

I still beg for NOT Angelina and Brad.  I had seen Hilary Swank suggested.  Also ick.  I can't think of a single actress I'd want to play Dagny.

Hey, just so long as they are not forced to be in the movie and they do it by their own free will.

dazie

How about Cate Blanchette as Dagny and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as James Taggart?

Can Sean Bean do a good American accent?  He'd be good for Hank.  Maybe Jeff Bridges?  Too old?

I watched it on TCM -- it may come back on there again, and TCM has no commercials.  I think a few parts of it were a little contrived, and a lot of it heavy-handed, but not having read the book, I can't make that kind of judgment.

That said, I enjoyed it.
