I'm not normally a NASCAR fan, but it looks and sounds really cool in Hi-Def.
Yes it does.  My dad and I watch NASCAR when I am at home.  I am the only one that appreciates it.  His wife hates it.

I watch NASCAR when I can.  But I prefer open wheel stuff.
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

Neither nerds nor rednecks have a majority grip on pop culture.

Perhaps not, but they may each have a plurality.  Can you otherwise explain the popularity of Comic Book movies and Larry the Cable guy? (not to mention NASCAR is the fastest growing "sport" in America)

Sorry if I offended, but not being in either group (I was a different type of geek, and I am most certainly not a redneck), it seems that so much of American entertainment is geared towards them.

I'm not offended, I just don't see either as being a driving force.  Certainly comic properties have become far more prevalent, but I completely understand why.  Comic properties are ultimately family friendly properties, and family friendly, when done right, brings in lots of cash.  The only reason these projects weren't being made before was because the technology didn't exist to do them justice.  Now that the technology exists, and movies like Spider-man have shown what kind of rewards are reaped when it's done right, we're seeing a great deal more of them.  Same for fantasy films like LOTR and TCON:TLTWATW.  I don't think they're prevalent, they're just catching up to the rest of the genres.

As for rednecks and Larry the Cable Guy... well, I don't get it either, but then I'm not the demographic.  But as long as there is a market, you can expect someone to exploit it.

meredith

when it comes to movies, it's all about an easy source of material to suck dry.

Open wheel cars are LOUD.  Ever been around one in person?  HOLY CRAP.  One Indy car is louder than a whole pack of stock cars.  It's insane.  Of course, so is driving one of those tiny little things.  NO fucking way man.  No fucking way.

I'd drive a stock car in a second, though.

I guess my redneck is showing again :)
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

I grew up near Pocono Raceway.  I went to ALL SORTS of races.  The best are the semi trucks.  :)  Love it.

I used to want to be a stunt driver.  I still kinda do, but the parents and my insurance company didn't think it was wise.

Nerd is no longer and insult...the nerd community embraced the word and made it their own.

Um, yes.

11:42:28 [Gamplayerx] Er. OUT!

Listener

I think he has the life experience to play Tony Stark, what with the addiction problems and all.  That doesn't bother me nearly as much as Ben Affleck playing Daredevil did.
