The original is a classic.  And yet, I have no problem with this.  Most people haven't and won't go seek out and watch the original.  And with the sociopolitical climate that has engulfed this planet for the last several years, I think we could all use another shot of Klaatu Barada Nikto.

Of course, in a modern version the robot will be three stories tall, a mecha with nuclear missiles on it's arms and frickin' laser beams that slice people in half.

The original is one of my all-time favorite movies.  I've become even more fond of it in the last half-decade or so.
