Tracking SPAM via Gmail

I just read this on DIGG:

There is an easier way to find out who is selling your email address if you use GMail.

Some of you may remember this from a previous digg.

GMAIL accepts email addresses with a +soandso at the end of your username.

Here is how you make it work.

Lets say you sign up at Gamespot.com - Use the email address of yoursername+gamespot@gmail.com

When you get an email from Gamespot or the person that gamespot sold the address to you will see in the TO: field yoursername+gamespot@gmail.com.

If you get spam and it says yoursername+gamespot@gmail.com in the TO: feild than you know that Gamespot is the one that sold your address.

most email systems support the +foo suffixes, for those non-gmail users.

i give out addresses with different suffixes for tracking, and to automatically flag messages or send them to another folder
