Good, perhaps better than good, but certainly the lesser of the three films in the Vengeance trilogy.  It had some nice references to SFMV in it, and some nice casting, but didn't have the thematic weight the previous films.

The scene where Lee Geum-Ja has to re-create the murder of the child is arguably my favorite.

Beefy

Oh, also it had Min-Shik Choi in it, which, as Bish will agree with, makes it worth paying attention to.

Of course, now that I've said that, many others come to mind.  The opening credit sequence, for one.  GORGEOUS.

A good question, indeed.

I still haven't viewed Azumi 2 since I got it.  I also purchased a copy of that Chinese movie that links sex with watermelons that I linked to in some thread some time ago.  So perhaps one of those.

Not true.  It just takes a little imagination.  For example, we could create a six minute claymation short of Margaret Thatcher riding around in a circle on a unicycle in the middle of downtown Boise whilst farting and repeating the word "gorgonzola" over and over again until she goes hoarse.

I bet that's an original thought.

Look at that, you wanker.  You were so busy being an idiot earlier that you charged to Holiday on your timesheet instead of Vacation.  And now corporate had to call you on it.  I hope you feel like a buffoon.

Yeah well... whoops.

I find that if you resign yourself to feeling like a buffoon all of the time that these individual occurrences carry much less weight.

What a joyous outlook on life you have.  And you wonder why you're single.

I don't wonder about it.  That one is pretty clear.  Stop trying to put your thoughts in my head.

Fine.  I was just trying to help.

Are you ever going to STFU & GBTW?

*sigh*

Yeah, I'll get back to you with more later.  Let me work for a minute or two.

Good good... earn your paycheck, you bum.

Just watched this saturday.  I loved it, not as uncomfortable to watch as Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (which I had to actually leave the room a few times while watching).

I thought the whole decision scene was my favorite part.  It made me connect to each character way more than any other part of the story.  The murder re-creation was pretty good!

Why so soon?

Well, I was puzzled by my reaction to it, especially after hearing PE's reaction to it.  I felt very distant to the film while watching it the first time, whereas the first two really pulled me into them.  I started to suspect my reaction was more a reflection of my mood than the film itself.

I was more involved the second time, though still not as much as the other films.  I think the film telegraphs it's moments so early that there is a real lack of surprise involved.  It's more akin to waiting for the inevitable.  It's still sharply made and wonderfully acted.

Oh, and PE is right that the decision scene packs a fun punch.

Nope, I'm sated for now.  Quick Change comes out on DVD today.  I love that movie.

Isn't that the movie with Bill Murray playing a clown?

Yeah, it's completely underrated and underappreciated.  It's taken too long to get to DVD.

Also, Mirrormask comes out today.

Wow, based on your accounts, Mirrormask has been released three times already.

So you watched Sympathy for Lady Vengeance again last night?

Indeed I did.

Why so soon?

Well, I was puzzled by my reaction to it, especially after hearing PE's reaction to it.  I felt very distant to the film while watching it the first time, whereas the first two really pulled me into them.  I started to suspect my reaction was more a reflection of my mood than the film itself.

So then?

I was more involved the second time, though still not as much as the other films.  I think the film telegraphs it's moments so early that there is a real lack of surprise involved.  It's more akin to waiting for the inevitable.  It's still sharply made and wonderfully acted.

Oh, and PE is right that the decision scene packs a fun punch.

Ah.  So are you going to watch it again tonight?

Nope, I'm sated for now.  Quick Change comes out on DVD today.  I love that movie.

Isn't that the movie with Bill Murray playing a clown?

Yeah, it's completely underrated and underappreciated.  It's taken too long to get to DVD.

Also, Mirrormask comes out today.

Wow, based on your accounts, Mirrormask has been released three times already.

Well, they keep bumping it.  I don't actually expect to see it sitting there at the store.

That's okay, you wouldn't get around to watching it until some time in 2010 anyway.

Eat me.

And did you not buy Amelie on the day it was released on DVD?  And have you still not watched it?

Your point?

That, like Mirrormask, you've never even seen the film and yet you are childishly eager to pick up  the DVD.  And then when you have it, you won't watch it.

Maybe I just like packaging.  Maybe I am more interested in people coming over and seeing that I own these films, so they know I have good taste.

You don't want to see how long that list is for me.  And we're talking about movies I've never even seen.

Just watched Sympathy for Mr Vengeance. Wow. Lady Vengeance is next in my queue.

I thought these two movies were in a trilogy with Old Boy, am I wrong? It looks like the third movie is Joint Security Area, not Old Boy.
A clever man commits no minor blunders.

Alice

Old Boy is part of the Trilogy.  It's the 2nd in the set.

Joint Security Area isn't part of the trilogy.

Beefy

Thematic trilogy.

1. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
2. Old Boy
3. Lady Vengeance

While not part of the vengeance trilogy, JSA is a very good movie.
