Then put him in the oven at 350 for about two hours.  Serve warm.

Hog tie his ass.

im seriously considering it, this is totally stressing my normal unstressed ass out severely.  3 times a day I have this wrestling match with him and im not sure ie ven got the eye drops in.  Has anyone had experience eye dropping uncooperative animals?
Beat him unconscious first.

do you know of any sort temporary animal sedative?
then he'll be blind and high...not a good combo

We could call him Stevie Wonder.
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

you racist only his fur is black.
Ok i have a battery of options now thanks.  I have at least 15 wrestling matches to go till they remove the stiches.  Then the doc determines if he needs it foreva.  I just don't want to fuck up this week and have him go blind just cause I'm incompetent.  My incompetence should only hurt me, not anyone else.

Don't you have roommates?  Could anyone help with the holding part?

don't say the word battery in a dog thread.  that's a story i don't want to tell.

have you called the vet to ask for suggestions?  i was thinking benadryl might calm him down and make the wrestling easier, but i would have no clue what is a safe dose for a dog that size.  it would have the added benefit of reducing inflammation.

yeah but i need to do it three times a day, and I am the last one awake.

I cradled him like a baby with one arm and used the other arm from behind CALMLY (I guess grabbing his neck is sort of scary) and used my right hand to drop it in.  It worked last night, but DID NOT work this morning.  argh just till Monday hopefully the stiches will come out good.

on a serious note...Benadryl may help. i have given it to both my Danes a number of times for various stuff. had a vet tell me it is a sort of "asprin" for dogs.
a very tiny bit of the liquid may just have a calming effect, which the poor baby probably needs.
(one drop for him...five for you... :)

Benadryl?  that sounds good but 3 times a day?  How long does it take effect?

OK I'm the worst dog owner ever.

Today was teh big day for stitch removal.   FInally this gigantic monkey will come off my back.   Well, it turns out he had scratched out two of his stiches out, so they had to DO SURGERY AGAIN.

It was my damn fault, I felt so bad that he had to have the cone on all the time, I would take it off when he slept.  I guess he scratched his face then.   :hit:  So now I have another surgery and TEN MORE FRIGGIN DAYS (thats 30 eye drop wrestling sessions) to deal with.  I really wish I had a doggy gallows.

Yeah I know you feel bad because of the cone but ... well now you've learned the lesson.  Other than tearing out the stitches (yeowch! stitches between the eyelids torn out?!), did the doc say anything about the condition of the eye?

No, in fact the next set of meds just had instructions for the bad eye only.  And I got no more pills.  I went realy late after the docs left and just the techs were there I'll have to call him later.  So I surmise maybe the eye drops were going in OK.

I'm finding when I don't have some around to help out its simply a war of attrition.  I got up early again this mornign and fought with him for maybe 15 minutes.  It seems much longer than it is.

On the longview, this really underscores the areas of my personality I need to work on.  Its quite a good analogy I dunno for life I suppose.

Everything will turn out okay.  You didn't know what he'd do when you took the cone off - don't beat yourself up for trying to make your dog comfortable.  Now you know why he needs to be uncomfortable for awhile, lesson learned.

You're still a good dad.

Thank you very much for the re-assurance, but I'm beginning to suspect that I'm not the biological dad though.
