Ok, since my wife and bro-in-law have decided that watching PBS, Discovery, and The Weather Channel are not "their thing", I have had to find alternative methods of entertainment. To this end, I have become somewhat addicted to several YouTube channels. I will come back here and post in this thread some of the more awesome ones I have found.

The three things I require in a YouTube channel are:

1) Have high production values
2) Update at least somewhat regularly
3) Be funny, musical, and/or scientific

Please feel free to add to this thread any other YouTube channels you know of that meet these criteria.

If you want just a sample of their awesomeness rather than scrolling through their lengthy list of videos, just check this out: http://youtu.be/054M9aIEenc

This YouTube link of videos needs to be watched in order since it is an ongoing story (skip the first "Trailer" video): http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLp3Kk8tovQCp_EdLqAsOogCc-zhhdha7F

Wait.  There's more to YouTube than cats playing piano?
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

Many years ago when I lived in Memphis, I joined a bowling league thinking that it would be a good way to meet people. It turns out that the people you meet in a Memphis bowling league are not necessarily the kind of people you want to be friends with. Anyway, every week I would go to Hardwick Lanes a few blocks from my apartment and throw my 2nd hand ball down the lane until our team finally won the last place trophy at the end of the season.

Hardwick Lanes was owned by Billy Hardwick, the first player to capture the PBA career "Triple Crown" - which is achieved by winning the three primary PBA major tournaments: U.S. Open, PBA National Championship, and Tournament of Champions. He was also one of the first professional athletes to be showcased in a beer commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_pDPhEk440

Interesting side note is that after this commercial was made, the industry decided that only retired athletes could advertise beer as to not send the message that drinking makes you a champion.

His son, Chris Hardwick, moved from Memphis after high school to LA where he roomed with Wil Wheaton for a few years in college. Later Chris turned to acting and comedy. He was the original Stacee Jax in the LA production of Rock of Ages before the stage production went on to Broadway and eventually to the big screen (he played Tom Cruise's character from the movie).

Most lately he is known for hosting The Talking Dead on AMC and The Nerdist on BBC.

Here is a link to the series he hosts that I appreciate the most: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4F5986B34F73F112

This was one of my weekly favorites. They went on hiatus for 4 months but are promising to start back up on the 19th: http://www.youtube.com/user/ooJLEoo/videos?view=0

Ok, so you may have thought that I geeked out in my Chris Hardwick post but, um...

I'll start off with a link to a video by Not Literally for fans of the HBO series Game of Thrones. This was my introduction to the pair and I fell in love. This is one of the few YouTube groups I have contributed money to fund their projects. If you haven't seen the entirety of Game of Thrones season 1, then don't click on the following link: http://youtu.be/ZXSSBu9uKrM

You must be a fan of Harry Potter to truly love this next set of links. But for fans of the series, they have taken the concepts of the houses to a new level of awesome.

Ravenclaw is in the works

And don't forget to Ask Hogwarts:

They do other things including sketches around Dr. Who and Rocky Horror:

I <3 them.

Although the YouTube channel Geek and Sundry has many different "series" of shows, today's link is to one of my favorite. It stars Felicia Day and her brother Ryan playing old school home console games without any experience or instructions for the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac1cjg0jdoY&list=PL7atuZxmT956QzFpiCWAQT0uAOUU2iNcr

I'll add something....  Maybe not as informative, but still interesting.  The Blackwater Gospel.

Here is a good channel that appears to have stopped updating after 25 episodes. It is similar to DC's post. This channel is a collection of independent directors producing shorts of varying quality: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlfX4F00N7cuTA3E5Ew33yE_DInODzztN

Have you ever wondered what happens when you throw sodium into water, or put a piece of dry ice on your tongue? Have you ever wanted to build your own smoke flare, water balloon shooter, or homemade arc welder? Let me introduce you to Grant Thompson, the King of Random: http://www.youtube.com/user/01032010814/videos

It occurs to me that my post on August 14th was a repeat of a something I posted last year in the Occupy My Mind category. So as to be fair, this is another one I posted last year in this category that is another bit of awesome: http://www.youtube.com/user/KassemG/videos?view=0

Ok, this will be my 14th post in this thread of YouTube links. I have a bunch more of 2nd tier YouTube links that I won't inflict on you. If I come across any other bits of wonderful that meet my high standards, I'll come back and post them but I will leave you with one more...

My Drunk Kitchen is one of the more well known YouTube channels. In my opinion it can be rather hit or miss. The best episodes of MDK are ones where she is sharing the kitchen with someone else. This year MDK went on the road and interspersed the kitchen episodes with a travelogue series that was actually quite funny. For your enjoyment... Not to be pedantic or anything, but the purpose of this thread isn't to post individual videos, but to post links to YouTube channels. All of the links you posted actually have entire channels of other material behind them. To be fair here are the posts' channels:

http://www.youtube.com/user/simonerovellini/videos

http://www.youtube.com/user/byArthuur/videos

http://www.youtube.com/user/logitech4873/videos

I haven't had a chance to check out the other producers' material, but if it meets my quality standards (as stated in my first post), I might add it to my Tier 1 Channel list.

Thanks for the contribution!

I can't watch videos at work. Or basically ever except the middle of the night and not then because I'm sleeping because my life is kind of like that these days.  But I do like Chris Hardwick.

Another one of my all time favorites that I hadn't previously mentioned...

Grace Helbig had a channel that had over 2 million subscribers called Daily Grace. She had a deal with MyDamnChannel to produce a daily video that became one of my favorites. Although her channel was somewhat of an acquired taste, it truly is one of the great cornerstones of YouTube .

She wanted to split out from MyDamnChannel and when she asked to carry forward her Daily Grace YouTube channel without the MyDamnChannel association, they declined and claimed ownership of all her previous material.

She decided to go it alone and start a new channel called It's Grace and went from over 2 million subscribers to nothing. This was extremely brave of her and I would encourage you to check out her new channel. If you think it's funny, then please subscribe to it and promote it on your social networks.

Ok, this one started off kind of slow, but if you keep with it, the shows grow on you: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLl4T6p7km9dYLInN8vFmq4XJPzxKOHtC5

Interestingly, the shows are in reverse order with highest numbered shows being the oldest.
