(I can't find the other thread)

I will say two things for now:
It was a great sci-fi movie. Best I've seen in a long time.
It was not Star Trek.

Jessie

That's pretty much exactly what I expected it to be.  And also why I want to see it.
we should have kept the quote pyramid up to rape Jessie in the face.

meredith

i hear they went nuts with the lens flares

Yeah. Me too.

Got my tickets for this evening.

The lens flare was insane. So was the camerawork. Having the camera zoom all around at weird angles is ok during a battle scene, but not when people are just standing there talking. That was annoying.

More review and spoilers:
Kirk was not Kirk. I understand this was an "alternate timeline" and his past was different but it would have been fun if the actor had worked harder to be like Shatner.
Spock was fun to watch but didn't feel like Spock to me.
Mr. McCoy was awesome. They nailed it perfect. He was my favorite part of the whole movie.
Eric Bana is a terrible Romulan and not a believable bad guy. I was surprised at how flat he was.
Best line: "My ex-wife took the whole planet. All I got left is my bones."
The space battles were very un-Star Trek like but still very good.
Like I said before overall the movie was awesome. I would see it again. However I went in with low expectations. My brother had high expectations and was very disappointed.

We loved it.

There were a LOT of lens flares.

For a long time I thought this franchise couldn't be salvaged.  I'm happy to report, that is no longer the case!!  I'm not a Trekkie by any stretch of the imagination.  I have been and always will be a loyal Star Wars guy.  But this film was super enjoyable.  It raced with a bullet pace and had a reasonably sophisticated plot with
time travel
being a plot element.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film and am happy to think about possible upcoming installments with the new crew and new style.  The kid playing Kirk is cool and Spock gets to have a personality which I wasn't expecting.  The guy cast as Bones is perfect and the guy cast as Scottie shocked me, but he works pretty well-also didn't know he could swing a Scottish accent until this.

Overall, very fun!!  Worth full ticket price and even worth standing in line with a faithful Trek crowd.

And the funny thing is, I started to tear up at the end.  Not because the film did anything emotional but to think that something that has long been a part of my childhood (I've seen every Trek film in the theater except #3-which was terrible anyway) is still alive and well and can continue to let me reconnect with something fun from my youth got me a little choked up.  This was the feeling I wanted to have after the SW prequels.  Funny that Trek would be able to grant that wish instead.

Ursus teared up too evidently.

I wouldn't know, since he didn't go with ME.   >:(

I have yet to see it.
"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

We had a couple trekkers the showing we went to. Their kids wouldn't sit with them.

There was a Star Trek convention in the hotel where Ursus' parents stayed when he and I got married.  Quite surreal.

I loved it.

I have caught the geek from you all.  I want to see it again.

I was taken by the score and the hotties.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. More than I have enjoyed a sci-fi flick in a long, long time. I think I'm going to see it again this weekend.

My wife has been insisting for the past two weeks that she is Spock's girlfriend. She finds this very funny.

I dunno.  He's OK, but I think the guys that played Kirk and McCoy were hotter.

Kirk didn't do it for me at all.
