"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

I wish I had grey dye- I'd make a Twilight egg for Kate!

But the vampire fang one is a great idea!  As is the goth.  hmm...

OK- one of the first things you see when you look at "How to make these kinds of eggs" directions is USE ROOM TEMPERATURE EGGS.

I scoff at room temperature eggs.

And then the dye comes off on my hands when the egg sweats while I'm heating it up to remove the wax.

So this one is potentially a do over, as the red ribbon on the back is kind of crappy, because the red dye started coming off.  But I think I did well on the front.

Yes.  I'm aware that the "L" in Twilight looks something like a dildo.

You try drawing on an eggshell with wax.   :P

can't you mix something and make grayish. there once was a thread about mixing colors..

Black and white make grey.  That's it.

Bennyhana

what kind of dye do you use?  You could potentially thin the black to get grey instead of just doing it quicker.

dazie

It's dye specifically made for this sort of thing.  I don't know what it's called.

The way the process works, if I just wanted a black (grey) and white egg, I could do as you suggest.  But if I want any other colors, if I just dipped the egg quickly into the black, it would come out muddied with the color underneath.

I shall experiment though, and see what happens.

I made a Starry Night egg.  I'm really pleased with how it turned out, even if it doesn't look like I wanted it to.  I'm definitely going to make another one now that I know what it looks like.

Please forgive the crappy cell phone pictures.
