Shot in 24 countries (in between jobs for the director) and self financed, so I guess its indie as fuck.   I'm not particularly observant of cinematography, but this is over the top grand.   It feels less serious thans Pan's Labyrinth but more dark than the Princess Bride.  A little ethnic girl in a 20s LA hospital is told a meandering story by a friendly but suicidal patient.  The story is largely in the eyes of the little girl.  For example, the patient tells a story about an Indian and his squaw, whereas the little girl imagines an East Indian with a turban. 


It reminds me also of the Salinger's short story the Laughing Man, in which a tale told by the "role-model" of the main character changes based on his fickle mood...towing the emotions of the listener along with it.

The reviews were mixed, but I liked it.  It is a pleasant fairy tale that probably should have been in an IMAX.
