It has come to my attention that there isn't anyone "in house" at my work that knows any video editing software.  We send what little we do out.

Since I'm trying to figure out ways to move UP in the company, I thought perhaps that's a path I could pursue.

Any suggestions on software?  I don't foresee I'll be the next <insert fantastic and famous video editor's name here> or anything, but if I can keep jobs in-house, that could possibly justify a position change.

I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

What kind of computers do you have and what are their specs?

What Beefy says.  If you are looking to try something (cheap) = Adobe is coming out with its new Premier Elements (7.0) on October 15.  It is supposed to be pretty beefy (so to speak).  It will get your feet wet for the bigger things.

It's all Macintosh at work.  Everything from hamster driven to jet propelled.

Guess which kind I get?   ::)

Does the Adobe one come bundled with CS3?

Depends on what version of CS3.  The Masters Edition has the full version of Premier.  Premier Elements is a stand alone.

FalloutBoy does video editing, too.  I think his stuff is all Mac.

Do your Macs come loaded with iMovie?

We have little to no exposure with iMovie at work, but I do know that it is incredibly finicky when it comes to file formats that will work with other players and platforms.  It is a low end non-linear editor, though, I believe.

If you can convince someone to shell out the cash, and you have access to a Mac that will handle it, try Final Cut.

Also, give me some time to root around and look up some more options.

The kids here use Final Cut Pro.  I haven't played with it myself, though.

Final Cut Pro is highly advisable, but I doubt she has the budget for it.

Haven't had time to research it yet, Dazie.

FOB said he was going to post some not incredibly informative information, but someone stole his reply buttons.  It's really odd.  They are totally gone.
