I found out last night that Dudley has a lump.  Probably a cyst.  Probably benign.  Still, he's not even seven years old.  And while I know this is common for dogs of all types, I still say f*ck you world and the horse you rode in on.  Some creatures don't deserve discomfort.

Then again, this could be karma for the baby possum he nearly gave a heart attack out back about an hour ago.

Wow.  Butters gets the Kroger knockoff of the  Purina stuff Donald was feeding her.  And treats.  And sometimes cooked meat.  And lots of love.

I feel like a bad mother after reading China's menu.  Hell, I feel kind of jealous of China.  I think she eats better than me.  I'd like mine cooked though, please.

She certainly eats better than I do.

And she doesn't get all of that all the time.  We're really much too lax on the veggies.

The important part is that she gets chicken parts with bones in.  If they aren't cooked, they're still pliable and she can digest them and suck out the nutrients.

where is the lump? what did the vet say? and what is the plan?

you're right that it's probably nothing to worry about, but i know that it is still a huge huge worry.

that's the part that has always intrigued/worried me about the diet. god knows my dogs would go absolutely deliriously insane if i started feeding them anything like that. but it sounds like it's been very very safe and a very good idea for your fourleggeds. maybe i should consider some changes.

It worried me too, until the lady that started us with it explained that the dogs "eat like wolves eat."  So- yes- they eat raw bones, but not the brittle cooked ones.  Those are called "gutbusters" for a reason...

The cyst is about 2/3rd a way down his torso, right above the left side of his abdomen. 

My mother, who thankfully has much experience in such things, will be taking a look at him this weekend.  I assume I will be taking him to the vet during the week next week to have them verify it is benign.

I don't mind.  I'd sell everything I own to keep him healthy.

he's at the age where fatty tumors can start to pop up as well - sophie has a very large one on her side that we keep an eye on. those are nothing to worry about, but of course... they are worrisome.

i spent thousands of dollars on surgeries and treatments for phoebe alone, and it was worth every penny.

maybe that possum was having to work out his own bad karma from a previous life. the monks say we should rejoice when something bad happens to us because it means that we have laid a karmic debt to rest. plus, he totally made dudley's evening. so, if you're jewish instead of buddhist, it was a mitzvah that possum did.

that possum is still hyperventilating under a bush somewhere, fanning himself and saying "jesus CHRIST, i can't believe that just HAPPENED, i'm having a heart attack!"

(this is funny in my head because i've been watching eddie izzard endlessly on youtube for the last two days, so all that is said in an eddie izzard possum voice, while wearing makeup and heels)

Goosey needs new dogs to annoy.  China starts barking when he gets within 2 feet now.  *lol*

Our older dogs only eat canned food that is veterinary prescribed or fresh cooked turkey. Our younger dog eats only leftover canned veterinary food or dry food with turkey drippings.

Our younger dog is getting a little fat.
