I make something really similar with ground beef, pasta, diced tomatoes, onions and cheese.  I cook the ground beef and onions together, and cook the pasta.  When all cooked, mix together and back for 20 minutes at 350...it's pretty yummy!

I added salsa and it ended up really good.
