Will he, won't he?  Will he stay out, won't he?  Dude, shit or get off the pot, stop teasing your fans and the rest of the league!  I'm so tired of this shit.  He's more indecisive than W planning a secret exit strategy from the G-8 conference to get out of tough decisions.  'Do I take the first door, or the second, oh wait, that's not a door...that's a buffet.'

Then there's this article laying every team's rationale for wanting or not wanting Favre.  Of course most of the teams they mention that WOULD want him if he were free, DON'T run a west coast offense anyway.

There's a certain amount of dignity he is losing in all of this back and forth drama and now we're in our 4th year of it.

I will punch all the McCaskeys in the face if the Bears take him on.

I think the Pack would do anything they can to keep him from playing IN the division.  And yes, I think it would be a crummy move if the Bears decided to bring him in.

HA!  Now Green Bay won't let him go.

I hope the whiney baby just retires.

They won't let him go because they think they can get something in trade for him and to prevent him from moving within the division.  If they trade him, they at least have say in where he goes to some degree.

One report that keeps popping up is him going to Miami.  A)I don't want him there. B)We aren't going to win anytime soon-even with him-so going doesn't satisfy his desire to win a SB soon.  C)We don't run a West Coast system or anything close to it so there would be a whole new language for him to learn for just one or two seasons.

Still, I think the rumor is out there because GB and MIA have talked a few different times about trading Jason Taylor (yes, Mr. Dancing with the Stars 2008).  I think Favre would nix that swap pretty quickly.

But they were the ones pushing him out of the game. Once they realized he didn't really want to retire, they suddenly want leverage with him.  It's all just crappy politics.

He should just retire before he breaks a hip.

I think both sides are guilty of acting like asses.  They have pushed him hard but he's been yanking them around for 4 straight off-seasons now. To the NFL, it became a bit of a soap opera.  I can imagine being on that team and being really annoyed by the whole process.

Dumb athlete alert: Update

Tampering charges are a big deal under this commissioner and could be punishable by several draft picks lost.

Both sides are ratcheting up the situation.  It's more complicated than just one guy coming back and playing apparently.

Favre's side:  I want to play, I won't be a backup, I might consider playing for someone else and if so, Minnesota is my first choice

Packer's side: We really don't want you back because we're tired of your on/off BS for the last 3 offseasons, you're really old by NFL standards, we have a guy we drafted 3 years ago who appears to be ready to play, and if we don't play him now or tell him he's the starter and then recant, he would likely leave at the end of the season because his contract expires at the end of this season and would be an unrestricted free agent, and then when you really do decide to quit-completely-we'd be without you and without him, but there is NO WAY IN HELL we want to release you and then see you wearing purple and gold during the first game of the season (vs. Minnesota)

Quick update:

Favre did report to the Packers.  He had meetings last night and for 5 hours today with team officials.  Left that meeting, got in his car, drove to another meeting (apparently with family members).  Everyone is acting as if Favre will not play for the Pack but no one is saying those words exactly.  NFL rumor mill says that he will likely be traded and Tampa Bay is the preferred trade partner by the Packers because it would take him out of the division.

Apparently Favre has asked for his release or trade and has accepted that he will not play for the Pack.

Fox Sports is saying Favre has been traded to the NY Jets for a single draft pick (undisclosed at this time) and is believed to be a conditional pick.  It's probably a 2nd that would turn into a 1st if he meets certain performance levels that will be written into the trade language.  This has become a common practice in the NFL the last 6 years or so.

I know Montana did it. I know Young did it. Emmitt Smith did it, and Barry Sanders wanted to do it.

No one really thinks less of them or their legacies because of it.

To me, it's still annoying.

I agree, very annoying.  And while those guys did do it, they weren't quite as old either.  I'm not betting on Favre helping too much.  If anything, I think he'll be more like how Johnny Unitas and Joe Namath flamed out-ailing bodies on shitty teams.
