They said they didn't want to try and deal with the alcoholism in the establishing film, which, from a business perspective, I can kind of understand.  Favreau wants to save that for part 2, if there is one.

Any time he runs
Out of afro-sheen.

(I make up songs about my friend Colin to the tune of Iron Man.)

Perhaps not, but they may each have a plurality.  Can you otherwise explain the popularity of Comic Book movies and Larry the Cable guy? (not to mention NASCAR is the fastest growing "sport" in America)

Sorry if I offended, but not being in either group (I was a different type of geek, and I am most certainly not a redneck), it seems that so much of American entertainment is geared towards them.

I'm not offended, I just don't see either as being a driving force.  Certainly comic properties have become far more prevalent, but I completely understand why.  Comic properties are ultimately family friendly properties, and family friendly, when done right, brings in lots of cash.  The only reason these projects weren't being made before was because the technology didn't exist to do them justice.  Now that the technology exists, and movies like Spider-man have shown what kind of rewards are reaped when it's done right, we're seeing a great deal more of them.  Same for fantasy films like LOTR and TCON:TLTWATW.  I don't think they're prevalent, they're just catching up to the rest of the genres.

As for rednecks and Larry the Cable Guy... well, I don't get it either, but then I'm not the demographic.  But as long as there is a market, you can expect someone to exploit it.

Open wheel cars are LOUD.  Ever been around one in person?  HOLY CRAP.  One Indy car is louder than a whole pack of stock cars.  It's insane.  Of course, so is driving one of those tiny little things.  NO fucking way man.  No fucking way.

I'd drive a stock car in a second, though.

the news graphic referred to lt. col Rhodes are colonel.  Also, I think Cuba Gooding Jr. would have been better

for some reason I thought this movie would be one that beefy had some obscure vendetta/boycott against.  I would rate it as below X-Men 2 (my favorite of the modern comic adaptations) and above Spiderman 1.

how hopeful should I be for all sort of marvel heroes in the Avenger movie.  i mean it would be awesome if  X-men, spidey and even daredevil got a cameo

it is.   i was there with a USAF staff sergeant who pointed out all the ranks, identified all the equipment, and was generally excited about all the air force presence in the movie.

the news graphic referred to lt. col Rhodes are colonel.

I have no issue with this film.  Why would I?

Because they were so busy printing money that they forgot to deliver your comics on time? Is this a test?

I'm going to go but I wouldn't say I'm excited.  There simply isn't that much you can do with the Hulk as a character, let alone a heroic character.  And most of that got done in the last film.

I totally forgot about the part at the end of credits.

Still, I loved this movie.  It far exceeded my expectations.  Very strong film.

The guy at Blockbuster said they've had to ship back half off all discs sue to defects.  Scrutinize your purchase carefully.

There was a huge recall before the actual release happened. Paramount says that all is well now. No problems so far. I think I want to get Transformers, too.

Do you guys think Blue-Ray will last and eventually replace regular DVDs?  I have lukewarm feelings about the whole Blue-Ray issue and personally don't feel a need for buying them as long as DVD's are available.

And more on topic, I'm pumped about soon owning Iron Man.  I was so impressed with it.

Costco had a Blue Ray video demonstration on the difference between Blue Ray and and standard def DVDs using the animated movie Cars. They put up a dividing line and showed the difference between Blue Ray and standard def on a HiDef TV. I must admit that since then, I've been shopping Blue Ray DVD players. I'll wait until they are < $300 before I buy one. At that point we will start buying Blue Ray DVDs. Until then, standard def DVDs will do for me.

awesome, you've finally got something to play on your ps3!!!!

i'm kidding. i'm sure talladega nights is just about wore out by now. :D

I didn't get one with Talladega Nights. I wish I did. Then I would have had something to play :( LittleBigPlanet comes out in a couple of weeks, though.

I still buy 95% of my movies on DVD. The more recent DVD releases seem to be copied from high def masters, so on a good upscaling DVD player (like the PS3) the picture quality is still really good. Obviously it can't put something into the picture that isn't there, but I believe that the resolution of the content is higher in the last couple of years.

I'm actually going to do a little experimenting of my own. I bought Iron Man on Blu-ray yesterday, but I also won a DVD copy at Wally World's grand re-opening this morning when I stopped to buy my lunch on the way to work. So I'm going to try to tell if the Blu-ray was really worth it, aside from the web-enabled content and exclusive special features.

Watched it for the first time last night

Piss piss piss poor writing.

Fair directing.

All saved by Rober Downey  Jr.

Terrance Howard never fails at being cool.

Jeff Bridges is talented enough to be evil in one movie, the dude in the next, the president in another and not get type cast.  It's really impressive when you stop and think about it.

I've completed my analysis. As far as video quality goes the upscaled DVD comes pretty close to the HD video of the Blu-Ray version. At more than 6 feet from the TV I can't tell the difference, but I don't see that well so take what you will from that. At about 4 feet away you can see the differences in visual detail. Images are more crisp and defined and there's no noticeable blurring except for those things that are out of focus. I'm not sure that the increased detail it is good enough to justify the cost of a Blu-Ray player.

The true difference was in the sound quality. The uncompressed PCM audio is just leaps and bounds above the audio on the DVD. There are so many more sound details that are distinguishable. In this area I think that there is noticeable value in Blu-Ray.

I concur.  I laughed several times, and found myself getting tense in several scenes.  I hate that.  Hate being manipulated by the director.

Although- the director IS Jon Favreau.  rowr!  He could probably manipulate me.
