My goddaughter, who is presently in first or second grade, I forget which, is learning some weird serif form of writing that's supposed to be a bridge between print and cursive.  What a waste of time. And what's worse, her mom had to learn it to so she could help her with her homework.

Honestly, it just looks like what adult handwriting looks like when we're trying to print, writing too fast, and dragging the pen across the paper.

I don't think it's a bad idea, actually.  I think it helps improve handwriting in general - and does make it easier for kids to learn and write cursive eventually.

You learned it, so you would know.  As a third/fourth grader, I didn't experience any difficulty making the transition without any intermediary.  I guess it depends upon the tools you have -- you CAN use a flat screwdriver in most phillips-head screws, but why would you want to when you have a phillips-head?

Did that make any sense?

To be fair though, I also didn't not learn it - so I can't say that not learning it makes any difference either.  Hooray double negatives!

I had a hard time writing to begin with because I'm left handed.  That caused more issues with shit at school than I think people realized.  (Now, however, I have gorgeous handwriting! ;) )

I remember my grandma sending me in to buy her a pack and she said she wanted a box, so I thought she wanted a carton, and I couldn't figure out why they wouldn't sell them to me for $2.

I started smoking at 13.  By then the legal age was 16.  Just before I turned 16, they raised it to 18.  I was mad.

ALL OF YOU, GET OFF MY LAWN.

I graduated from HS in 82.

I was four years old in 82.

OOH, BURN!
I was 5.  My baby brother was born.  I burned my hands (3rd degree burns).  Uh, what else happened?  Oh, Anthony wasn't born.  I was going to say he was a fetus, but he wasn't.  Good God.

I never learned cursive.  They taught it in 3rd grade and I skipped that one.  I don't know Matilda Bay whatever the heck Dazie was yammering about, but I do remember the Bartles & James wine coolers.  I like Jolly Ranchers, but I bet the drink has high fructose corn syrup in it and I hate high fructose corn syrup, so I'll probably never taste them.  Hotlinking is bad.  I was 13 in 82 or at least half of 82 and I didn't smoke.  Did I cover everything?

Timothy bought one of these things today.  Blue Raspberry.

Blue bubbly vomit in a bottle.

Holy christ, was it ever awful.

As much as he likes nasty stuff (Like the liquid sour candy stuff that tastes like bile), even Timothy wouldn't drink this stuff.

YES I'M OFF YOUR LAWN

I saw books with denelian script in them but i don't remember exactly what they taught in school.  I don't think it was that, though.  I ended up with my own terrible style of handwriting.  It's mostly shortcuts because I couldn't keep up with other people in writing speed.  Other than writing, though, my hands are extremely dextrous.  Just ask the ladies. ;)

I could go my whole life without seeing jolly rancher soda, and I'd probably die happier for it.
