Title: Lost Season 2 Discussion Thread
Post by: Beefy on September 16, 2005, 07:00:22 AM
Why am I starting this early?  The season doesn't premiere until Wednesday...

Well, because thousands of folks were treated to the premiere last night in Oahu.  And many of those folks have posted spoilers to the Net.  If you don't want to know any secrets, be very careful on TotalFark and the Net for the next few days.

I now know what's down that ladder, and it isn't anything close to what I was expecting.

Verified: season premiere spoilers have been posted to TotalFark at least once.  I imagine that it is only a matter of time before someone puts the info in an actual headline.  Be careful, if you care.

Also, the more I think on it, the more what's down that ladder makes sense and gives me some hope for the direction of this season.

Timothy and I watched some show that was like a recap of the first season.  I'm sorry I didn't watch.

I probably won't watch this season either, since I work every Wednesday night.

I was looking for the spoilers thread on TF. I've never seen the show, but I wanted to know what was down that ladder before you all.

Yeah, it would be good to rent or Netflix it.  There were quite a few threads in TF from people who had just watched the whole season front to back saying that watching it that way made all the difference in the world - you supposedly catch a lot more subtle references and clues when you don't have to wait for weeks on end for a new episode.

I'm just glad that what's down that ladder is something significant.  It could have been some lame little teasing thing, but instead it really does kind of change how you perceive what is going on.

One of the best references that I didn't catch and my buddy had to point out:

<Micheal> *pointing to what Jin is working on* No, no!   That one goes there, this one goes here"

I didn't even catch it as a subtle reference to Star Wars and Han and Chewie.

Like i've said before, it's a case of having really great actors but mediocre writers.  The main writer went ahead and said, "I have no idea what the big monster is" in an interview.  That's rifuckingdiculous.  That means they're going to build it up and build it up and then pull some lame answer out of their ass.

It's going to go the way of X-Files where the loose plot lines just stack and stack and nothing ever gets resolved to give the audience some sort of closure.

Wow.  No one said anything.

I thought the Season opener gave the audience plenty of what it is used to.  New mysteries, teasing, further glimpses into what makes the characters tick, etc.  I love what was down the ladder, and am intrigeud as to why Goldilocks saw the wet kid on the island.  Kate is becoming more annoying as her character is fleshed out less.  Locke is still The Man.

I liked how last night's show ran concurrently with the season premiere.  It feels like the writers have grown a deeper sense of confidence in what they are doing.  And that last shot was a doozy.  I'm glad I decided to stick with the show.

My only quibble is that, to me, Kate is still a non-character.  Her main function remains eye candy.  They need to make her a more believable participant.

I've only watched the last 2 eps of that show, but if those jackasses think that I'll watch the same 12 hours of time from different people's points of view, they're friggin nuts.  That was so infuriating.  Nothing new learned (i've decided the raft people/kidnapping is super boring, I only care about the hatch), a whole damn ep and we're nowhere.  If the clock doesn't move ahead next ep, I'm so not going to watch anymore.

Agreed on all counts.  I liked the last 2 episodes....I want to know what happened to Jin....they better show his 12 hour story in the next episode....

QuoteMy fellow "Lost" addicts have an ongoing debate each week about practically every issue on the show and a couple of them thought the driver "killed" by Jack's future wife (Julie Bowen) in the season premiere flashback might have been Locke. Like, maybe he was revived later and that would explain his paralysis. So I reviewed the episode on tape and they're wrong: The other driver is Shannon's dad. The EMS guy who wheels him in says the patient is "Adam Rutherford, 57 ..." Well, if you check the official Web sites, Shannon's last name is Rutherford. And remember, one of her problems is that after her dad died, her stepmom (Boone's actual mother) cut her off financially. So, depending on how you look at it, either Jack's wife killed him in the accident, or Jack killed him by choosing to treat the girl instead. Dun-dun-DUNNNNNN!

You can't possibly tell me that none of you have looked at the source code for that site yet.  Sheesh. How do you expect to learn anything about the show?  Even if Karmic Hoax hadn't pointed it out to me I'm sure I would have stumbled across it myself, I was just getting around to it when she told me.

I saw that. I wonder what abc will do with this page in the future.  hopefully they'll updated it as the season progresses.

You can't possibly tell me that none of you have looked at the source code for that site yet.  Sheesh. How do you expect to learn anything about the show?  Even if Karmic Hoax hadn't pointed it out to me I'm sure I would have stumbled across it myself, I was just getting around to it when she told me.

what's a source code?

I've never seen the show, so I don't know what I'd be looking for in the source.

You know that hanso link you came across?

You can, um, type an 's' after the "http" to try and look at the secure site.

It brings up something that could be an enormous spoiler.

Do so at your own risk.

Also, this in from one of the co-creators about tonight's episode:

QuoteThis week's episode slows it down. Not a lot of mythology. Not a lot of "plot advancement." Just good, clean character-based storytelling, Hurley-style.

"Sometimes a polar bear is just a polar bear."

Also, Youph noticed that if you add up all the evil numbers the sum is 108, which is the numbers of minutes they have to reset that clock/computer gizmo each time.

I liked last nights episode....I really liked the Rose/her husband thingie that they had...I think some good questions were raised as well....
Another bunker?
What happened to the other 15-20 people?
Why is Michelle Rodriguez being such a bitch?
Will we ever be able to see flashbacks from the peeps on the other side of the island?
Where the fuck is Will?

Or maybe I haven't delved far enough into the internet subculture....

I dug the development of Mr Echo.  Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje( Mr Echo ) played Adebisi on Oz and he was a damned compelling actor.  It'll be interesting to see where they take Mr Echo this season.  Hopefully he's around to stay.

As always Daniel Day Kim kicks ass.   And did I hear Sawyer call Jin "Chewie"?  That's the second star wars reference regarding Micheal and Jin.  Awesome.

How can you stand that?  We're like 8 eps in to this season and only 2 days has passed since the hatch opening.  Dragon Ball Z was edited like this too and it infuriated me.  Whole episodes would cover only 5 minutes of real time.

You're not calculating this in Lost time.  He has a wound that has been festering for about 15 hours.  It's also been washed out with ocean water.  I doubt that will be the case.  I forget what faces they flashed. Was Sawyer even among them?

Anyone care to share any guesses about who is going to bite the big one? I'm thinking Sawyer is gonna die.. he has that bullet wound that has been festering for a few days .. I bet it gets infected and he gets blood poisioning..

I know exactly who it is.  They already leaked it to the Net.

It's not who you think it is.

This episode I'm watching now has a flashback of the rockstar hobbit guy. A woman said that the "old man was buying a paper company up in Slough" or something. I was wondering if Slough is a big paper town or if this was a reference to The Office.

Which others?  We have three factions of folks on the island, plus everyone having a twin would be a fourth group, in theory.  Are the twins part of the subversive group controlling the island?  Are we any closer to learning the nature of the monster on the island?

Will this show collapse in a heap of it's own, over-elaborate nonsense as it tries to stretch itself out for several years?

It appears that the theory is an internet hoax.  It would be an interesting explanation, though.

I'm afriad the show has too many tangents, too.  I'm frustrated waiting for some understanding and getting more convoluted additions, instead.  We shall see what happens, I suppose.

So the groups are the front passengers, the back passengers, russo (SIC, but it's easier), Ethan and his group (assuming he wasn't alone), and whoever has been killing off the rear passengers???

Are you unfamiliar with "The X-files" "Twin Peaks" "Northern Exposure"???  "Weird" shows like this always collapse under their own weight and you never get an explanation of why things are the way they are.  This is because the damn writers don't finish their story before they make the show.  An antithesis to this would be something like "Babylon 5" where JM Strazinski had written the entire 5 year major story arc before he even pitched the show.

Spoilerific!  I'd say that the theory could have merit.

It's certainly interesting.  I guess we'll have to see if they show the others any time soon.

Are you unfamiliar with "The X-files" "Twin Peaks" "Northern Exposure"???  "Weird" shows like this always collapse under their own weight and you never get an explanation of why things are the way they are.  This is because the damn writers don't finish their story before they make the show.  An antithesis to this would be something like "Babylon 5" where JM Strazinski had written the entire 5 year major story arc before he even pitched the show.

Northern Exposure was probably my favorite show ever.

I liked it, too.  I regret that I never got into Twin Peaks.  I was but a wee lass when it was on.

The internet is full of hoaxes though.  How do you know which are hoaxes, and which are hoaxes of hoaxes.  Was "The Aristocrats" a hoax?  The internet says yes.

I don't know if it's really related to the show, or something someone just created. In the source, there is <bgsound src="walt_inthewoods.mp3" loop="6"> And also, all the websites you expect to find, like hanso, mrclucks, and oceanic. There's one I can't figure out why is there:

I like spot right behind the wheel chair spaces so I can put my feet up on the rail.

I don't know that I agree with that.  Did the whisperings mean the others were around?  From the reaction of the tailenders, I'd say yes.  Did the whisperings mean the Others were around?  Quite possibly.

I'd like to know a little more about why the Others have been collecting children.  Was it because they were looking for The One (walt?)?  Or was there something greater going on?  And why did they abduct the demale tailender last night?  Or was she even abducted?

One thing is for sure - it was nice to have an episode with no sign of Jack or Kate or Hurley.

I'm still of the opinion that the "monster" is a reaction, not an action.  It appears as a result of someone doing or thinking or feeling something specific.

Much like shallow bitch getting fleshed out last night, I bet next week's episode will help us empathize with Ana Lucia more.  Though now that she shot shallow bitch, Ana has a rougher time ahead of her.

I agree in that I've never really bought off on that relationship, though it makes a little more sense last night.  Shannon needs someone to take care of her, even if she resents it.  I think perhaps Sayid is the opposite, needing to take care of someone, maybe to alieve the guilt of loved ones lost.

I think they already tried to soften her up a bit last night.

The 'I love you' was a bit much.  I never totally got that whole thing, either, but we learned in Speed that relationships that start in stressful situations never last anyway.  So, really, it's better for him that she's dead.

Ooo, new rumors up:

Ana Lucia is LAPD and has a history with Kate and her criminal past.

Dec. 14th is supposed to be another bombshell episode, answering some questions and creating others.

There are rumors of one of the flashback episodes actually being flashbacks of the island itself.

That's an interesting web page, beef.  The whois information for the domain is "protected", so the only useful info from that is this:

QuoteUpdated Date: 10-nov-2005
   Creation Date: 05-oct-2005
   Expiration Date: 05-oct-2006

The page has code for two javascript functions that are never used, and the form at the bottom is referenced in those functions. it converts a single decimal number to an IP address, or vice versa, but there's no way to kick off the functions for it.  the only button that works is the last one, which just blanks the fields. the page is actually hosted at http://www.oida.org/ssl/dharma/index.html too.  OIDA looks like  a normal site.

The biggest thing about tonight's episode: they introduced morality into the rationale.  That threw me.

I totally had the mole pegged, however.

Also, tonight had the single worst line of dialogue for me in the entire series: A.L.'s reaction to finding the door.

Yup yup

Is this the first time we've seen "the others" as fully embodied people?  Up until now they were just apparitions leading children's feet around?

What would random pirates want with a small boy?  Perhaps he's the only one that can fit the costume.

Mr. Echo needs to put Anna Lucia down for the count.

The real question is how they're going to tie Ana's past in with one of the other survivors.

Both Sawyer and Kate have problems with the law in their past.  Perhaps it's one of them.

Last night's episode made new fans out of several of my coworkers who have until now been ambivalent.

Mr. Eko's back story was easily one of the most compelling of all the characters.  And the actor playing him is just fantastic.  Last night really made you feel for him, as well as fear him.  Who else could have possibly stared down the monster like that?  (Yes, folks, they showed the monster last night.)

Also, they did the unthinkable and gave Charlie back some depth of character.  Who knew he'd been sneaking around?

Also, confirmed on CNN this morning: there were, in fact, flashes of actual images in the tracking shot that went through the monster.  It shows images from the past of any person it comes across.  I'm hoping stills land on the Net today, though CNN is running video of it in slo-mo.  The real question is why it didn't take down Eko.  I'm betting because he didn't fear it.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is just a hell of an actor.  He was amazing in Oz and I like that he's really given some room to act here.  He's usually cast as the "Big African Muscle"

In celebration of tonight's new episode, here is a link to one person's theory of what is going on.  I don't know if it's right or wrong, but it's well researched enough for me to believe they've gotten at least part of it right.  If that's so, be ready for spoilers.

I looked at that briefly as well.  I wonder if there is any significance.  Don't hexadecimal numbers start with 6t?  Or something like that?

Hexadecimal numbers make me feel very, very stupid.

A common notation is for hexadecimal numbers to start with "0x" or end with an h.  The digits used in hex are 1-9,a-f.  But "6t" could be a hint for 16, and hexadecimal is base-16.

351321321 => 0x14F0BCE9
or
0x315321321 => 14247138081

Not sure I see anything special there...

except that maybe FalloutBoy is behind the whole thing.

So are these people that are on this show!  It's crazy!  Their plane crashed on this "deserted" island - only it's not deserted.  There are "others" and a monster and stuff.  Gripping tale, I tell you.  You should check it out.

A show like Lost doesn't really do well with extended breaks in scheduling.  For one, they have to work pretty hard to keep   peoples interest.  Especially after a stinker of an episode like last weeks.

That's what I said when my wife asked why did Locke keep it. Spike your enemies food with a few ounces of heroin and you have an excellent weapon. And if you are dying and the group is out of pain killers, heroin would at least ease the person's misery.

Locke not only kept the heroin, but changed the lock to the vault.  He's moving in on Claire, and I'm betting they're setting him up for some major Feb. sweeps actions.

Did anyone, by chance, TiVO it?  I watched it, but didn't know something important until this morning:

Some of the survivors were confronted early on by a polar bear.  Which is odd, since they are on an island nowhere near polar bear territory.  It was later shown that the boy, Walt, was reading a comic with polar bears in it, and so it can be assumed that Walt has either some extraordinary power, possibly in connection with the island, that results in manifesting the things he thinks about.  This could be the reason his dog survived the plane crash as well.  The people who make the show like to throw little things in for the fans, so seeing stuffed polar bears pop up last night wasn't that surprising.

That's what got me started on it.  I was thinking, "Oh she must have been a therapist at the institution."  But given how they just -love- to do the whole "people aren't what they appear" bit, I'm not banking on her having actually been institutionalized.

If they do this and it wasn't part of their overall plan, I wonder how it impacts what they've been trying to do with the show, narratively speaking.  It seems to all be meticulously planned out, so then how does removing her affect that?

Then she hung up.  She called later and apologized, but said it was a really good episode and the phone ringing scared her.

I actively seek out the spoilers.  It keeps me from being disappointed later.  Such are the long running consequences of The Phantom Menace.

The way I took is that he's talking about metals like aluminum, that have little to no magnetic properties.

He should have said nonferrous or nonferritic metals.  Certainly if he were in the industry, he would use the correct term, right?  Or non-magnetic if he were trying to talk to someone who may not know what the first two terms would mean.

I Googled it.  Apparently there is some precedent for calling them non-metallic metals (though you have to go through a ton of RPG figrue painting links to find anything).  If I'm reading this right.

This may just be one of those little fun hints they throw in - like the Alvar Hanso thing.

I know there was something about a magnet on or in the island... A material like aluminum is called paramagnetic, that is individual atoms all have a different magnetic alignment, so there is not remarkable field in its natural state, but it can be magnetized with a permanent magnet or used as the core of an electromagnet.

I'll let you draw your own strange conclusions with this information. :)

I don't know the Alvar Hanso thing.

Hans Oersted discovered electromagnetism in 1820.
In 1999 the 'Oersted' satellite was launched with the purpose of charting Earth's magnetic field. The findings led scientists to believe that there might be a polar reversal imminent, the effects of which could be cataclysmic: if Earth were to lose its magnetosphere, it would be vulnerable to massive radiation from the space/sun. The satellite also revealed an anomaly in the magnetic field under South Africa; it is pointing the opposite direction from the rest of the Earth's field and has been growing for hundreds of years. Please Google this info. A similar idea was also used in the film 'The Core'.

Hannes Alfven
His contribution to science - mainly in the field of electromagnetism - revolutionized how scientists view the universe, winning a Nobel Prize on the way. He spoke English, German, French, Russian, and some Spanish and Chinese; and studied oriental philosophy and religion. He spent time in the Fiji Islands. He was fascinated by the "green flash" - a phenomenon that sometimes occurs at sunset. By no coincidence (Green Lantern and Flash comic)

Alfvén plus Hans O. equals Alvar Hanso.

Scientists, fearing the cataclysmic events of a polar reversal, prepared an environment for the survival of the human race. They either directly or indirectly engineered the kind of people who would make up a community fit for survival and propagation of a new world. In the main, this means characters without father/mother figures; and/or characters with skills for survival: a doctor, an engineer, a survivalist, a mercenary; and characters of sufficiently varied genetic background: african, caucasian, asian, etc. to ensure a healthy gene pool for generations.

Then on an island which already had a massive natural source of electromagnetism, they constructed an artificial magnetosphere, alluded to in Walt's/Hurley's comic

Yeah. What I meant is that there is no explanation there at all.  How did we arrive at 'caus. die'?  Are the glyphs translated as phonetics for English or phonetics for Egyptian?  If they are for Egyptian, what does it translate to in Egyptian and what are possible translations from that into English?

The Hanso Foundation site has been updated.

ABC has released the list of who the last four flashbacks belong to. The season finale flashbacker is a doozy.

If you would like to read a rather revealing look ahead at the show from the mouth of one of the creators, go peruse the aintitcool.com Lost thread for tonight's episode.  (Just don't read the article itself, unless you wanna know who the flashbackers are).

Global Welfare Consortium - 19 September, 2005

To: Dr. Roderick Johnson, M.D., Ph.D., Clinical Director

From: GWC Executive Committee
RE: Violation of Ethical Guidelines/ The Hanso Life-
Extension Project

CC: Mr. Peter Thompson, Vice President, General Counsel,
The Hanso Foundation; Hugh McIntyre, Vice President and
Communications Director, The Hanso Foundation

Dr. Johnson:

We have received word of an unfortunate and most alarming
issue in the past days concerning research operations by
The Hanso Foundation in the sub-Saharan region of Africa
Sadly, we have exhausted our mandate as a watchdog
organization and must petition you for a formal
investigation.

It has come to our attention that a new strain of
meningococcal disease has been reported in the coastal
villages of the United Republic of Tanzania. This strain
is particularly alarming in that it has successfully
breached the simian/homo sapiens barrier.

As the enclosed documentation and correspondance
demostrate, we have repeatedly asked the Executive Board
of the Hanso Foundation for assistance in determining the
possible correlation between the outbreak of this
transgenic disease and the research being conducted on
primates in their Experimenatal Station in Zanzibar.
As our requests have been met with utter and complete
disregard, we feel we have no other choice than to demand
your immediate intervention.

As the Hanso Foundation is using primates to research gene
therapies intended for human use, the correlation should
be obvious.

Considering the alarming nature of this outbreak and
the mounting death toll it is imperative that the Hanso
Foundation immediately open the doors of their
Experimental Station for inspection and, should a link
be found between their work and this disease, cease and
desist their activities immediately.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Lives are at stake.

Monsieur Jacques Maillot
Director General, GWC Executive Committee

No, the show is good, but not to the point that I need to involve myself in blatant marketing schemes.  If they want to keep my interest they need to stop having breaks between episodes and work on a strong story line that keeps me coming back after a season.

Notes/thoughts on last night:

- When the coroner takes the cassette out of the tape player and lays it on his desk, he rests it on his coroner's notes.  If you scrutinze these notes, they're on a notepad from a facility in Hawaii... where they film the show.  Oops.

- What was on that tray in the Pearl hatch?  It looked kind of like a cigarette, but there was more going on there.  I thought I saw a magnifying glass.

- The Asian guy in the Pearl Orientation video was the same guy from the Swan Orientation video.  Last night he introduced himself as Mark Whitman, but before he said his name was Marvin Candle.

- Eko's passport had the numbers on it.

- The miracle girl was the daughter of Claire's psychic.  He claimed he was a fraud, but her exchange with Eko in the airport leads me to believe he lied.

- The numbers on the printout in the Pearl station were 108 minutes apart, as though they tracked every time someone hit the button.

- We haven't seen the last of Libby.

Also, new commercial last night, new password, and lots of new Hanso Website mysteries.  Too much to track here.  If you want to follow all of that, head over to http://www.thelostexperience.com to keep up with it.

Permissum

permitto permissi permissum : to allow, permit, let.

Vestri
your

Complector
compass (from complectus - to guide)

Rector
from regere - to lead straight, guide, rule.. but i think this is "ruler" as in one who rules. of course the verb is what fits.

Vos
you

we both know someone who studied latin in school and she could probably look up the roots, and conjugate and nounify better than this

Just watched last nights episode.  Jesus, I practicaly screamed at the television!  "SOMEONE FIGURE IT THE FUCK OUT!"  I couldn't believe Sawyer and Kate were so easily snowed.

Season finale predictions:

Micheal dies.  Frankly, there's no way to really reconcile what he did unless he decides to keep it a secret the rest of the time - which, to me, would be a smart move for the writers to pull.  But, in the end, I don't think they're that brave.

Sayid and Jin take the sail boat across the island and act as "back up" for Jack/Sawyer/Kate/Hurley/Micheal.

My predictions:

They will wrap up the one major storyline from this season that hasn't been reconciled/dealt with (the trailer for next week pretty much confirms this).  It is also possible that they will reconcile the Libby/Hurley connection.

Also, a few more details will be exposed, leading to a larger mystery that will rear its head just as the episode ends.

Also, I think they opened up the possibility of being on Atlantis or a similar type island last night.

Airplanes are very intentionally made with as little ferrous metal (responsive to magnetism) as possible due to travelling through enough of the earth's magnetic field to temporarily magnetize parts, disruption of controls, and weight.  They are mostly aluminum, and I have a hard time believing there would be enough force to pull down a jet.  Since the magnetic force is radial, the amount of force applied to an object far away from the source goes down exponentially.  I didn't see the episode -- could someone describe the force applied to metals nearby? Like the necklace floating outward but not breaking, or stuff flying out of people's hands and junk flying around, or like a catastrophic OMG METAL FLYING EVERYWHERE?

During the big event metal was flying everywhere.  It was explained that every 108 minutes electromagnetism builds up and has to be released through the key press.  No way was it pulling the plane down.  I'd say it was an EMP but if that's the case, Hurleys CD player must have been in a faraday cage!

Shouldn't we be sticking to tiny text?

that's just weird, though.  should we get into the "why cant it be automated anyway?" questions?  or the "what kind of system requires EM to be 'dissipated' every x minutes?"  i still feel like the writers are only like a half-step ahead of us... or less.

When you have actors like Terry O'Quinn, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Daniel Day Kim, and Jorge Garcia, you really need top writers.  That's not something Lost has.

I dunno.  I'm not sure I'd dig the idea of them being on Atlantis.  The show is already overly mystical without showing a fabled city into it.

On one hand, I agree.  OTOH, I think it sort of makes sense.  The faith healer from several episodes back spoke of places with specific electromagnetic qualities taht lend themselves towards unusual phenomenon, including healing.  The island seems to be one, and Dharma seems to have moved in to exploit and experiment with those properties.  Now, Atlantis is the lost island because no one could find it.  What if the reason no one could ever find it was because the electromagnetic field from the island would lead people away from it all of the time?  They showed that statue foot last night for a reason.  It looked to be a Greek style sandal, which meshes with some Atlantean lore.  Also, Atlantis is fabled to have been brought down by a volcano, which there may very well be on the island.

It's all just conjecture and a product of my mind working overtime on last night's episode, but I think that foot along with the ruins of the window over the fake Others camp point to an old civilization on the island, and it could be something similar to Atlantis.

Or it could all be a red herring.  I dunno.  It's fun to think about.

Locke and Charlie have really turned into pricks.  Why did Claire suddenly like Charlie again?  ITS A DEMON CHILD.
I was upset Sawyer didnt' come up with any snappy nicknames this episode.
I think Walt is a clone.  The real Walt will use his DEATH POWER and Hurley's BALCONY STOMP to save them.

Desmond.  Crashed.  The.  Plane.  That was my holy shit moment for the evening.

I figured it out when he started reading through the printouts Locke brought back to the hatch.

I think the first coda (with Claire & Charlie) was completely silly.  And after 65 days, where the hell is she getting all this lipstick?

I just figured out where I recognized Penelope from:  she was Charlie's British flame from an episode of Numb3rs.

That last bit, with the monitoring station, was interesting, but it seems to indicate that the show will end next season once Penelope figures out where the island is.

That statue?  Naveen Andrews played that line PERFECTLY.

Just by watching Daniel Dae Kim, I get the feeling he can't WAIT for his character to learn English.

When Tom removed his fake beard, I suddenly just KNEW that Henry was the leader of The Others, even before we saw him.

We haven't seen the Monster in a while.  We know what it looks like now.  But when are we going to find out what it is and where it comes from?

And finally... the gigantic pile of used canisters... wow.

QuoteThat last bit, with the monitoring station, was interesting, but it seems to indicate that the show will end next season once Penelope figures out where the island is.

Now that I've had some time to stew on it, this is the thing that bothers me most.  We now have action taking place off the island in present time.  That removes some of the mystery and sense of being, well, lost.  It grounds us back on Earth.  I dunno, it took some of the mystique away for me.

QuoteWe haven't seen the Monster in a while.  We know what it looks like now.  But when are we going to find out what it is and where it comes from?

I've grown to think that the "monster" is a tool, used at specific times for specific purposes.

Widmore shares an office building with Hanso/Dharma.  I imagine they are in cahoots.  It's why Poppa Widmore knew where to send Desmond on the sailboat (and why he gave him the boat in the first place).

the true relationship hasn't been dillenated, and there seems to be power struggles even within Hanso.  It would be crazy to see that aspect of Lost get all political and Byzantine.

You're presuming that Libby wasn't working for Widmore.  Her story was ridiculous and I think an obvious ploy to be sure that Desomnd took THAT boat.  Desmond didn't chance upon that island by accident.  He met with Jack beforehand.  He was one of the cross-connected.  He was meant to be placed on that island.  That boat took him there on purpose.

Shaft?  Lost's only drawing factor is having more mysteries than answers ...

I figured at least an Emmy nod for Eko.

But then, when Charlie Sheen gets nominated for his "comedic abilities" it calls into question the Emmy's relevance.

Also true :)

Eko would have been a good nod.  But then, I was also shocked to see Hugh Laurie left off.

I think that Two and a Half Men is one of the funniest shows on TV right now.

Me too.  That's the only sitcom I try to watch every week.

I'm getting ready to watch my 9th episode of season 2 right now.  If nothing else, it's good distraction from depression.

I didn't realize how many episodes I'd seen!  I had seen the first 7, I think, but it had been long enough that I'd forgotten most of what happened.
