Title: Steve Martin - The Crow
Post by: Bishamonten on July 04, 2009, 10:56:00 AM
He really is an accomplished Banjo player.

Here's a video of him in, I think, the 70s during his white suit tour.  He'd randomly whip out the banjo and everyone would be expecting a joke that simply never came.  Take note of his face at about :33 to :39 - he's not a comedian there, he's a serious musician and it shows.

Steve Martin is an awesome musician. He would do a Jimmy Carter bit in his comedy shows and play Foggy Mountain Breakdown. There was no doubting his musical skills after watching him play that piece.

I'm always surprised by how few people know that he plays.

Martin is a very talented man.  I've seen him in a number of interviews and he's extremely intelligent too.  It's pretty hard not to like him.

Just because the movie was bad doesn't mean he was too.  I've seen clips of those, most of them anyway, and he was still funny despite all the BS around him.

Ehh, he was pretty bad in those too.

Frankly, I lost a lot of respect for him as a comedian when I saw the boring overused "white guy tries to act hip-hop" scene in Burning Down the House.

Exactly.  He's amazing in many ways, and I know he does popular films in order to fund his more personal projects, but some things are just too... ugh.

We watched Shop Girl last night. It at least was an attempt at being good.

I enjoyed that movie but it had some very odd moments.

I've never seen that movie, but I have read the book.
