london beanie is a great first hat pattern, and the color work on this could even be done afterwards by stitching in the colors in the same direction as the already knit stitches. I say do it, because it is a pretty rewarding hobby. I'm learning lace right now and pretty much bit off way more than I can chew. Back to hats time.
I've never made a hat that really fits anyone. Perhaps summer's a good time to learn.
