Title: War of the Worlds
Post by: Jessie on June 27, 2005, 11:47:43 AM
Despite Tom Cruise's insanity, I think I still want to see this.

No way.  It looks somewhat like crap.  If they'd not tried to market it as "WAR OF THE WORLDS" I might have been interested.  But as it stands, it looks like a craptacular remake of a good story.

Plus I don't want him to get any of my money.  He's a nutcase.

He is most certainly a nutcase.

I think he could use a good dose of those meds he's so strongly against.

I'll wait for DVD.  At 9.50 per movie, I'm only going to the movies that I'm actually excited about.

There's a place around here where you can catch a matinee for two dollars.  I might spend that much to see it.

i was thinking along the lines of the original ray bradbury cornfield.

although if we wish them into kevin costner's cornfield, don't they just have to play baseball in the past forever? (ok. i did not see that movie, as i am allergic to kevin costner. i am risking bish's fate of hives by even typing his name more than once).

Hairless cats can kill anyone they want!  Hairless cats cut off heads ALL the time and don't even think twice about it.  These cats are so crazy and awesome that they flip out ALL the time.  I heard that there was this hairless cat who was eating at a diner.  And when some dude dropped a spoon the hairless cat killed the whole town.  My friend Mark said that he saw a hairless cat totally uppercut some kid just because the kid opened a window.

I was actually considering going to see this today.  Timothy wants to see it.  We've read most of the book and he loves it.

Then I heard the reviews this morning.

Apparently it is getting really good reviews, but it's also supposed to be really effin' scary.  I heard that Spielberg made it scarier than he even intended to.

I just don't know if it'd be too much for Timothy.

I'm going after work.

Dakota Fanning scares me.

I heard the first hour is relentlessly intense but that the second hour doesn't match it.  I also heard Cruise doesn't render the film unwatchable.

I heard it got good reviews from everyone but Ebert, but that he's not a big fan of these types of movies and even gave Jurassic Park a bad review.

I wonder if this will be scarier than that series, because Timothy owns and loves all three JP movies.

So much I want to talk about, but won't.

A few things:

1.  It stays alarming close to the original story, save setting it in modern day.  It is just from that tale from a different perspective.

2.  This is the Spielberg that made Jaws and Jurassic Park, not the one who made Hook or Catch Me If You Can.  He knows how to play with his audience.

3.  Cruise is not a problem.  He plays a selfish jerk.

4.  This needs to be seen on a big screen with VERY loud surround sound.

Okay, weird.

First off, I never remember my dreams.  But the one from last night/this morning, I still remember clearly.

Secondly, I watched WOTW for the second time last night.  So obviously I knew everything that was coming.

And yet I had nightmares about being affected by such an attack.  I even remember thinking in the dream: "This blows!"

I don't think I've ever had a nightmare induced by a viewing of a film I've already seen before.
