Title: French bread pizza
Post by: dazie on August 09, 2008, 07:39:49 PM
Ursus cut them before I could take pics, but we had french bread pizzas for dinner.

I brushed the bread with olive oil, minced garlic and fresh basil and pre-baked it so the crust wouldn't get soggy.

Then on one I spread tomato sauce (spaghetti sauce really) tossed on some more fresh basil and cheese.

The other one I laid down a light bed of cheese, then spread homemade olive tapenade and then more cheese.

We had italian sausage on the side for those that wanted it.

Good stuff, and it ended up being less than $7 for the whole meal, since I already had some of the ingredients at home.  (and I grew the basil)

You know, I bet if you made your own like that you could come up with some really good low sodium combinations...

Use straight tomato sauce instead of a pre-made spaghetti sauce or pizza sauce, or just use sliced tomatoes.

Top it with fresh herbs, veggies, shredded chicken or beef (stay away from processed meats) and top with low sodium cheeses- mozzarella or jack instead of cheddar.
