If I had seen this post before I would have commented that I went to see this. It was ok. The DVD release was renamed to simply Zack and Miri. I guess the word "porno" was too risque for mainstream retail.
Watched it the other day. It was cute.
I liked it.
This should be coming from netflix tomorrow, so I'll finally watch it. I like to stay uber current with the hip new flicks. :)

I have always felt, and will always feel, that this is a stupid argument. Apples and oranges.
Well that's what I told him, basically.
I told him to let the book go, because there's no way to pack all the detail from a book into a movie. It's never going to happen so just enjoy it for what it is.
He said the movie was way creepier.
i've got the second season of spaced. gonna watch it today...probably.

For contrast, you should have him read one of king's short stories that was turned into a movie. Maybe Trucks and Maximum Overdrive, because the soundtrack is awesome. I'm going to put that one in the other thread.

Maximum Overdrive is awesome. Who wouldn't love Lisa Simpson whining and Emilio Estevez taking on rogue trucks with the road twitch set to the dulcet tones of AC/DC?

DaVinci Code
One of the -worst- written books I've ever opened. Movie was CONSIDERABLY better.
I liked that book when I read it several years ago.
Of course, I read it as fiction, rather than some sort of piece of investigative journalism, so that might have something to do with it. A lot of people gave that book way too much credit.

I agree with Bish here. The book was fine and fairly interesting for the first 60% of it. And then the author seemingly got really sleepy or something and phoned in the rest. Laziest ending ever. Pissed me off. At least the movie had a bit of likeability.
We watched Zack and Miri tonight. What a bunch of fun! I enjoyed it. And it made me teary. Of course, I also cry at commercials because I'm a huge sap, but still. I liked it.

There were a number of fiction and nonfiction works similar that came out before it. All the news made the book a bestseller, not its own merits. When it first came out, we looked at it and shrugged. I got a galley copy of it, read it and threw it aside. Nothing special to it. Then the news and complaining started, and off it went.
What was really tiresome was listening to people rave about it as "the best book ever" followed by people ranting that it was going to destroy Christianity. Day after day. We grew to hate that damn thing....

One of my main complaints about the book is the horrible horrible prose.
