Title: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the East
Post by: Jessie on March 09, 2008, 07:48:18 PM
I'm about 75 pages in and really enjoying this.

Anyone else read it/seen the musical?

I saw the musical and enjoyed it.  Nallen gave me his copy of the book but I haven't read it yet.

I've been wanting to read the book for a couple of years.  I think there's a thread around here somewhere about the musical.  Perhaps it was Alice's thread, but for some reason I'm thinking BigDun.  Weird.

West, not East.

I'm dumb.

I've seen the musical.  I've been told that the giant, ridiculous, $50,000 dragon and clock imagery would have made some sort of sense had I read the book.  As it was, it was a fun show - not 80 dollars fun, but I wasn't paying.

I've read the book and enjoyed it, but every time I hear stuff from the musical I want to gouge out my eardrums.  I'm not a big fan of sopranos, and for some reason the show tunes that get played everywhere are very heavy on Kristen Chenowith, not so heavy on Idina Menzel.

There are definitely parts in the book that won't be shown on stage.

I'd recommend getting "Son of a Witch" next if you like this one.

I listened to the unabridged audio book. It was okay, but it kind of dragged out toward the end.

This reminds me of Harry Potter a little.

Ugh.  I hope you mean the story and not the writing style.  Otherwise, I'm just going to throw the book away and call it a day.

Just one section of the story did.  It doesn't any more.
