I'm now hearing the fourth Nirvana song on XM47/Ethel since 8:30am. And that's not counting the hour I was in a meeting and probably missed one.
They weren't that great.

Interesting side note. I've been really getting into the indie punk and hardcare scene from the midwest in the 80s/90s and I am starting to think that the whole grunge thing happening in Seattle was a fluke. If you listen to Touch ang Go bands like Tar, The Didgits, Arcwelder (especially Arcwelder), Big Black and Husker Du you'll hear unmistakeably the sound that became popular in the 90s and that was attributed to the Seattle/Olympia axis.
it was a national groundswell but it hit the main stages of the American conscience with the Seattle guys first...if they didn't do it, it would have been somewhere else. Who knows, they might have been calling them the Portland sound or the Jersey sound....

I think that it was more that the Subpop guys were better marketers than the Touch and Go or SST guys.
