Title: Springsteen/Seeger
Post by: dazie on May 01, 2006, 09:33:21 AM
I got Bruce Springsteen's new disc yesterday- "The Seeger Sessions"

Pretty good stuff, not what I was thinking it would be though.  I was hoping for more of the Seeger protest songs, but there are only two on there that could count as that.

Springsteen has put his own twist on old faves like "Erie Canal" and "Shenandoah" that makes Ursus want to vomit, but I dig it.  (I'm a Boss fan, he is not)  The disc is two sided, with DVD stuff on one side.  I haven't watched that yet, I didn't want to antagonize my husband any further.

However- the packaging SUCKS ASS.  One of those cardboard sleeve things that offer no protection WHATSOEVER to the disc inside.  I'm taking it back and exchanging it tonight- it's already scratched and dinged to the point that I can't play it on my computer at work.  I'll get the new one and immediately put it in a jewel case.

Bruce puts on one of the best live shows I've ever seen, even when I'm not familiar with the material.  I know I've said this before, but I always feel compelled to mention it again and again.  He has an intensity and energy as a stage performer that keeps your locked on him, even for three hours at a time.

I think I would vomit if I had to hear Shenandoah in Springsteen's voice too.

According to the teaser I heard yesterday, they're giving away tickets to this show this morning on Planet Alex - maybe even RIGHT NOW!  I'm not listening to Planet Alex, though.

*sigh*  The closest he'll be to me is Des Moines, and the tickets are FREAKING EXPENSIVE.

Why can't they just charge $20 a ticket and be done with it??

The Black Crowes are coming here next month, but the tickets are like $50.  That's crazy.

I really like them. A lot.  Not $50 worth, though.

Yes, around here.

For some reason, I thought she was talking about the Counting Crows.

The Boss must be a heavy influence on Fall Out Boy.

Song #7- Jacob's Ladder.  :)  This song makes me happy and I've been cranking it up in the car and singing at the top of my lungs.  It's on now, here at work, but not too loud.

I'm still chair dancing though.
