Is this a mystery food to everyone not in the south? So tasty.
Never had 'em.
Me neither. See signs for 'em all the time though.
I've had them. I don't care for them, though.
Definitely a southern thing. The husband of our secretary in SC made them and sold them to convenience stores, but that was the first I'd heard of them.
oh my god, boiled peanuts are swolt crack. There is a sno-cone stand around the corner that sells them.
damn I'm gonna go get some right now.
I was just commenting to Nesh how much I loved going home( Mississippi ) and stopping at roadside boiled peanut stands. Cajun Boiled Peanuts are the best.
Is there something more to them than just chucking Planters in water?

Cajun boiled peanuts have a spicey kick to them
Since you don't eat the shell, how does it get the peanut spicy?

you boil it for like a long time and the flavor gets through the shell to the peanut. Most of the peanuts you see are roasted and are hard, boiled peanuts are soft.
Hrm. That sounds kinda gross, but I'd be willing to try it some time.

oh my god, boiled peanuts are swolt ReBurn crack.
boiled peanuts are the deal, although they take some getting used to.
don't try to boil them at home. the smell of boiling raw peanut shells is not... fantastic.
My wife makes me boil them outside. I find it much easier, however, to go to any local convenience store where I can get two pounds for three dollars.
I too, have never heard of boiled peanuts.
I've never actually met an adult that tried boiled peanuts for the first time and was like OMG YAY!
do they have to be eaten fresh or is that just when they have the best taste?

They last a long time refridgerated. Some people cook them with a ham bone for extra flavor. You can get them at any ball game.
around here, you usually have to by them canned. i don't think there's a place to buy them freshly boiled.

Never seen them canned. Always in paper bags. There's a few vegetable markets and a bunch of gas stations that sell them that are made by locals. There's this one place down by the lake that makes the best ones. If you go down there on a Saturday afternoon in the summer you can usually get them so fresh they are still hot.
i would definately be interested.. however.. iowa is too .... (use whatever word you wish)

In the summer time Piggly Wiggly stores usually carry them in the huge #10 can for about three bucks.
