Title: Underrated/unseen performances
Post by: Beefy on July 16, 2009, 07:20:29 PM
To go along with the other movie surveys, here's another: what performances do you feel are either criminally underrated or criminally underseen?

I'll start by submitting Peter Fonda in Ulee's Gold.  Amazing work.

Tarnation.  Though I realize that's only going to appeal to a small population.

Excellent performance in an excellent film.

Steve Carrell in Dan In Real Life (not at all like his other characters)

Robert Duvall in The Apostle

Saw Crazy Heart friday night on a date.  The date wasn't anything special.  The movie WAS!!  Excellent performances by Bridges and Gyllenhall.  Couldn't believe Collin Ferrel was in this film.  He proved to be the lone suck point of the film.

Acting was great, story was great, music was great and has been very enjoyable in my iPod this weekend!!  Maggie was luminous in this role and though she starts off just as sweet eye candy, she has a very moving performance along the way.

5 stars!!

So far I've watched half of Society, all of Great White and Sukeban Boy and I started Mannaja last night, but I fell asleep.

I kept trying to get the language right, because I hate watching dubbed movies, but even in Italian with English subtitles, it seemed off.  That dude has pretty eyes.  He's sexy.  If nothing else, that inspires me to watch more.

It's off because of how Italian's recorded audio for cinema during that time period.  They did everything in post, nothing on set.  Many, many films are like that.

I love his theme song, and when it pops up in the film.
