Title: home computer quandry
Post by: dazie on June 21, 2005, 01:19:33 PM
A while back, I let my IT guy "fix" my home computer.  It'd gotten some virus and was just basically jacked.

I emphasized to him that if he thought anything in my documents would be lost, he needed to back my shit up.  He assured me that everything would be fine.

Well, I got the computer back, and everything was there, as promised.  HOWEVER- I no longer have any access to my programs OR my documents.  I can see them, but my access is denied.  Everyone else's profiles work fine, but they can't get to my stuff either.

In order to get this new snafu fixed, my IT guy says he'll need to take my computer to his house and it'll take time etc.

Understandably, I'm loathe to do this.  Any suggestions on how to fix this on my own?

What operating system?  Maybe you need to give yourself administrator rights.

NOTE:  I have no idea what I'm talking about.

If it's Win2K or Xp you need to set the administrator password, then log in as "administrator", you should have access to everything then.

If it's Win95, 98 or Me you can boot off a DOS floppy and move the files manually.

BigDun would be the final word on this.

As nallen said, the fix depends on what version Windows you are running. Give us the version and we'll get you working.
