I think I am going to take up knitting when Jeff leaves.
Is it hard to learn? Dazie, BD, I am looking at you.
My wife is completely self taught. I have never tried but my wife has taught the basics of knitting to other members of my family. It took them an hour to get the knit/purl combination down. After that it just takes hours and hours of practice.
Check out the Links on our website for lots of knitting related web pages: http://www.bcaweb.com
It's totally easy to learn the basics of knitting all by yourself. If you want to go further, it'll help to take a class or something.
I recommend the book "Stitch and Bitch" by Debbie Stoeller (Stoller?) It has lots of pictures and really basic directions on how to knit a lot of cool stuff. I've actually made one of the sweaters from the book.
The only thing I really needed help on was "casting on" and I found a video clip online that showed me how.
I bought size 8 knitting needles and thread so I can make something spiffy for my living room.
I can't even get the slipknot right. I think this is going to require a class.

My wife hates it when I refer to her yarn as thread or string.
I wish I were crafty.

I wish I could speak English correctly.

I am not in with the knitting lingo yet.
I wish I were crafty, too.

She's crafty - she's always down
She's crafty - she's got a gripe

So how's it going?
I think I will go take a class. I suck at it.

That's cuz knitting is a lot like masturbation. You should probably practice both.
I think I'm going to take up candle making.

Beeswax candles or candles that you have melt wax and dip wicks?

None of your beeswax.
beeswax candles (http://www.candle-making-guide.com/candles/making/beeswax-candles.asp)
That doesn't look as fun as burning myself with hot wax.
Are you gonna knit the candles?

I screwed up a slipknot. I may try it again sometime this week...I really want to make an throw for my chair.
Knit me a hammock.
ok- just promise me if you DO knit, you won't do anything like this. I'd have to kill you.

There's something funky going on with your link.
Oh. I will attempt to find one that works.
Guess you're only allowed to see it if you subscribe to their newsletter. (yeah- I'm that kind of geek.)
Anyway- it showed people who had knitted or crocheted things for their pets. Including a set of capes for a rat and a neckerchief for a cat.
Never ever do that.

It works, it's just appending a </a> to the end - if you delete that, it's all weird people and their knitted-clad pets.

Even better. See- don't do that.
Do you think it is weird that she knits items for her pets or that she has a pet rat?

That she knits CAPES for the pet rat. I don't care what kind of pet you have- animals don't wear capes.
Knitting is for pansies and people dumb enough to date Canadians.
That was way harsh, alice.

Me too. I can't even do a slipknot :(
I once sewed a Kleenex box cover together(not the actual box). I was about 8 and it used some sort of plastic framework that I had to run the yarn through in particular ways. You could tell which side I started with and which I finished with because the quality of work was vastly different. In retrospect, it was a lot of work and not particularly rewarding.
PS. Knit me a turkey pot pie, WOMAN!!

The left one is marginally larger than the right. You can't tell unless I'm braless. It's because I'm more in shape on my right side I guess. *shrug*
These are the things I notice and ponder.

Yup. You'd have to be up close and in person.
