Title: Knitting
Post by: cnamon on May 03, 2005, 12:32:37 PM
I think I am going to take up knitting when Jeff leaves.

Is it hard to learn?  Dazie, BD, I am looking at you.

My wife is completely self taught. I have never tried but my wife has taught the basics of knitting to other members of my family. It took them an hour to get the knit/purl combination down. After that it just takes hours and hours of practice.

Check out the Links on our website for lots of knitting related web pages: http://www.bcaweb.com

It's totally easy to learn the basics of knitting all by yourself.  If you want to go further, it'll help to take a class or something.

I recommend the book "Stitch and Bitch" by Debbie Stoeller (Stoller?)  It has lots of pictures and really basic directions on how to knit a lot of cool stuff.  I've actually made one of the sweaters from the book.

The only thing I really needed help on was "casting on" and I found a video clip online that showed me how.

I bought size 8 knitting needles and thread so I can make something spiffy for my living room.

I can't even get the slipknot right.  I think this is going to require a class.

My wife hates it when I refer to her yarn as thread or string.

That's cuz knitting is a lot like masturbation.  You should probably practice both.

Guess you're only allowed to see it if you subscribe to their newsletter.  (yeah- I'm that kind of geek.)

Anyway- it showed people who had knitted or crocheted things for their pets.  Including a set of capes for a rat and a neckerchief for a cat.

Never ever do that.

That she knits CAPES for the pet rat.  I don't care what kind of pet you have- animals don't wear capes.

I once sewed a Kleenex box cover together(not the actual box).  I was about 8 and it used some sort of plastic framework that I had to run the yarn through in particular ways.  You could tell which side I started with and which I finished with because the quality of work was vastly different.  In retrospect, it was a lot of work and not particularly rewarding.

PS.  Knit me a turkey pot pie, WOMAN!!

The left one is marginally larger than the right.  You can't tell unless I'm braless.  It's because I'm more in shape on my right side I guess.  *shrug*
