Title: Max
Post by: dazie on January 25, 2008, 10:10:58 PM
Who knew you could adopt hamsters?

Part of my job entails taking coupons that we've designed down to Petco and making sure they actually work.  While I was there today, I saw there was a hamster for adoption- cage & everything.

Kate's been wanting one, so I went back after work and picked him up.  He's so damn cute- fat and big, kind of a caramel color with a cream belly.

Pics later.

My first hamster was named Boss, after Boss Hogg.

Shows my age I guess.

In college I had a gerbil named Lestat.  DC can attest to the rodent's foul temper and sharp teeth.

my kids once adopted a ferret, a mean ferret named iddy. she lived with us for at least 4 days without my knowledge....and lasted 2 days after that.

NO RODENTS PERMITTED---under websters definition " any of an order of relatively small gnawing mammals"

Hamsters:  the disposable pet

My first hamster was named Hammy.  He died.
My second hamster was named Sterry.  He died.
(you can see how creative I was)
My third hamster was named Hammy Two.  He died.
My fourth hamster was named ... no, not Sterry Two ... Eners.  Short for Energizer.  He didn't keep going and going and going.
My fifth hamster was named Dury.  Short for Duracell.  The copper top let me down, too.

What I learned from my furry little rodents:  don't put your hamster cage in a location with large temperature swings - little suckers are super susceptible to pneumonia.

They only bite evil people. They're very intuitive that way.

My sister had a boy and a girl hamster when we were young.  They had babies.  One day we woke up to find that one of the adult hamsters had eaten the eyeballs out of all the young hamsters.

No more hamsters after that.

We had a hamster eat half of one.  That was the beginning of the end for us too.

I never had more than one hamster at a time.

One of my brothers stepped on the nice one that I had though, and squished him.
