Title: Riding the Bus With My Sister
Post by: Gamplayerx on May 04, 2005, 10:43:26 AM
So, I finished the book I was reading ("Fatal Flaw" by William Lashner - an okay read, if there's nothing else you can get your hands on) so I went through my house to see if I had any other books I hadn't read yet and found "Riding the Bus With My Sister" in the guest room.  I remember seeing a commercial for the TV movie with Rosie O'Donnell in it (has that already aired?) and it just so happens that emblazoned on the front of the book is a quote by her.

I'm on page 7.  I'll let you know how it is.

That sounds like a euphemism.

A friend of mine watched it and said it was a lovely story...but she is kinda old and likes stuff like that.

I couldn't get over Rosie's voice.

Does Rosie O'Donnell die at the end? Does she get hit by the bus?

Why do you have an old timey Dr Drew as your avatar?

It's Wassily Kandinsky.

I had to read Kandinsky in college, if that's the same one I'm thinking of.

I've never read anything by Kandinsky, but he's my favorite artist.

I'm about halfway through the book.  I like it, but some of the wisdom gleaned from the philospher busdrivers is a bit of a stretch.

I finished this.  Finally.

The book is basically set up in this format:

Interesting flashback to a dramatic period in her childhood
Semi-interesting interaction with her sister and bus denizens
Obnoxious and overstreching analysis of the "wisdom" and "life lessons" gleaned from the sister and/or bus drivers interspersed with trite and annoying application to her life, sprinkled heavily with self-flaggelation for being a bad sister/companion/person

Rinse and repeat.

Also, Beth's favorite phrase is "I don't know" - except it has different meanings based on what words or parts of words are italicized.

My rating:  2 out of 5

Now I'm reading Shopaholic Ties the Knot - inane, but silly and energetic.
