Last night I was driving home from dropping some furniture in my storage unit, and I totally rocked out to For Whom the Bell Tolls on the factory 12-year-old Aerostar stereo system in my dad's van.

Sometimes I forget that back in the day, Metallica was really good.  I don't often get in the mood for hard music like that, but when I do, give me something from And Justice For All, Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning anyday.

I think that when they got their hair cut for the Black album, that the barber trimmed it a little too short and removed their testicles, too.

Bennyhana

actually, they still had their hair long for the black album.  It wasn't until Load that they cut their hair.

Jessie

Hmm, I thought they got the new updated look then.  My mistake.  I guess their testicles just fell off on their own.

Have you heard St. Anger?  I would say that the album doesn't lack balls.

No, it just sucks balls.

Metallica has always sucked, and the video for Unforgiven used to freak me out.
Underneath this flabby exterior is an enormous lack of character.

Alice

No, no I don't.

Remember when Yanni didn't suck?

Yeah, even after I bought him dinner.  I was pissed.

Youphoric

Yeah, Metallica didn't cut until Load.

I'll take post-cliff pre-load Metallica any day.

I used to think he was hot.

My friends dad looked a lot like James.

I got hooked on Metallica because I thought Lars looked like Kiefy.  I was distraught that he's actually a hemorrhoid.

And yeah, he's always been a total dick.

I think you're the only person I have ever run across who says they prefer Jason to Cliff.  Which is probably one of the reasons he left the band.  It has to suck to still be living in the shadow of someone who died 15 years before.

Maybe he'd be more popular if he got squooshed by a bus.

It's a completely different playstyle.

Cliff was a bassist who played like a guitarist.
Jason was a bassist who...played like a bassist.

I like the low, melodic, pumping bass and not the style that Cliff had.

I see your point, though cliff used his fingers and Jason used a pick (which many bassists are vehemently against).  I would say that Jason is much more a musician than Cliff was, even though the band didn't really let him use that.

I remember reading interviews where Jason wanted to have more of a say into what kinds of songs they made, but Lars was smackin that down.

I also remember reading that's another reason why he left.

I was such a wuss back then and thought I'd get my ass kicked at a show like that.  I didn't really learn to appreciate bands like that till about '91.
