Although examination of period-era Commodores albums will indicate a large propensity for gay imagery (the guy with the glasses especially), that song is pretty catchy.

Some buddies of mine (actually the same guys that had the punk band named Junto) had the inner gatefold of several Lionel Richie albums tacked up on the walls of their house. They were pretty funny. Him holding the pole and jumping, him reclined in a very 80s style clothing pose, etc. Funny stuff.

That house was cool, they had it for a few years. It was an old house with 3 floors plus a basement with rooms that they fitted up to be jam rooms. Lots of good times were had in there, lots of good jam sessions. After they moved out, some hardcore kids moved in and trashed the place and it ended up burning to the ground.
