it's a tribute.

of course, back in 1989, he was writing grits sandwiches for breakfast...so i doubt he was listening to much skynard.

Yeah, I remember when Kid Rock was a skater punk, or whatever he was, so I'm amused by his current shtick.

Sampling I understand (though I think it's overused and usually really lame).  But the exact same music?

There were two different versions of "Don't Cry" on the Use Your Illusions albums, each with separate lyrics.
