My wife is working all weekend so I decide to drive to Tunica to see if any of the casinos still accept quarters (I posted previously about my hate of the new ticket printing slot machines). The fifth casino I go to still accepts quarters in the slots and even still pays out in quarters! Yay, I have a new favorite casino. I sit down and feed a five dollar bill into a quarter machine and start playing (In the five previous casinos I refused to play because they either didn't accept quarters or paid out in tickets) and after about 10 pulls I have $13.50 in quarters. Yay me. I take the quarters to a self service change machine and convert it to folding money, pocket the original five and buy my lunch with the remaining $8.50.

I am liking this casino so I wander upstairs to check out the poker tables. The other casinos I had visited had $5/$10 or $4/$8 tables that were all to rich for my blood (the larger number is the minimum bet on all betting rounds, so a $5/$10 means that you have to bet a minimum of $10 if you want to make a wager). This casino has $1/$2 tables with loads of people playing for $2 to $5 a bet. Just my style game.

I put my name on the waiting list, and when they call my name get $100 in chips. Instead of 100 $1 chips, they hand me 20 $5 chips. I ask what's up and they tell me that the table I am going to play at is a "Red Chip" table. This means that the blinds are still $1/$2 and in theory the minimum bet for each subsequent round of betting is only $2, but in reality since everyone has $5 chips, every bets in $5 increments. It isn't unusual for a single person to bet $40 in the middle of the hand (prior to all the cards being on the table so there are still more betting rounds to go). This is way richer than I was expecting but I have a seat and don't want to lose face by walking away from the game.

I hang in until the dealer changes and walk away making some excuse about wanting to go eat. My hands are still a little shaky as I convert my chips. Final tally after playing for two hours - My original hundred, plus a hundred and three dollars in winnings. Yay me!

i am actually very impressed. although i've played my share of poker and bet on games, i would be too intimidated to play in a casino. yay you!!

p.s. congrats on the quarters thing. that noise is really one of the best things about the slots.

Congrats!  It was the smoochie shirt, wasn't it?

I love the sound of quarters pouring out of slot machines.  Only it never happens to me.  I'm too cheap to risk very much.  Perhaps next week in Atlantic City.

I like the sound of silence.  You can hear the slots EVERYWHERE around here, even the grocery store.  They lose thei rmagic when, while squeezing the 'maters you hear "clangclangclangclangclang" "woowooboodlyboodlywooowooooboodlyboodly"  (That is my professional opinion of the noise slots make)

However, if it were a bunch of quarters falling into the tray at the machine I was playing, I might have a different opinion for that span of time.

I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

Don't fret baby. We're going to win big this time for sure. We just got to find one of those horse racing machines again. I've got the winning quarter right here... WooHoo!!

All it takes is a winning quarter. I interview all the quarters that go through my pockets to see if any of them are the special winning ones.
