Miss Molly

How would I cook the rice if I wanted to do a chicken and broccoli stir fry?

How does one make fried rice for that matter?

Or maybe I should just order some chinese.

I think so, Brain, but how will we get the Spice Girls into the paella?

BITE YOUR TONGUE.  Kansas was absolutely not in the Confederate States of America, hence not South.

Plus, I'm from Pennsylvania remember...

That was another reason for the Civil War.  The North and South were fighting over who had to take Kansas.

Are you actually telling me to commit heinous and grevious harm to a vital part of my body because I pointed out the location of Kansas?  That seems a bit of an overreaction.

No, rather because you pointed it out innacurately.

Innacurately?  You don't say?

poor molly. she asked for rice, not a recipe for john brown's body.

you kids.

fried rice is actually rice that was already cooked - like you'd normally cook white rice - and the stir-fried with seasonings. so - you cook up the rice while you're chopping your other veggies and what have you, and when it's done, you put oil in a wok, heat it up, add garlic or ginger or onions or hot peppers, then add any meat, then add veggies. then you add seasoning - whether it's a powdered seasoning like zatarain's, or soy s auce or something like that - so you add the liquid and/or spices, and then you add the rice, stir until everything is hot and boom.

or - you can fry the rice separately - cook it up, put oil in the pan, add seasonings and bring the heat up to high. real fried rice has an egg in it usually, so pour a whisked egg into the oil, let it set up, start stirring it around, then add any liquids, like soy, that you're going to put in, add the rice, and there you have it. some people add chopped green onion when they add the rice. it's important that the wok is really hot so it cooks out most of the liquid so the tasty stuff adheres to the rice.

it was like:

North -- " i dont want it, you take it."

South -- no way, it worthless, i dont want it.  Its yours."

North -- "so what, doesnt mean i want it."

and so on.

Thank you nishi!

It didn't come out quite as I had hoped, but I think I know what I did wrong.  I think it'll be better next time.

A good idea when making fried rice is to start with cold cooked rice.
